  • Need part number for exhaust flange gasket

I would like to purchase locally an exhaust flange gasket for my '48 Champion. Manny, Moe and Don't-know-Jack store wouldn't help. "Don't think I've ever seen one of those cars." "This guy says he has something called a Studebaker." Wouldn't even try his computer. I ran my finger along the top of their four foot long bank of parts books and walked out. They said nothing further as I slowly walked away with my money, giving them a chance to win me back. Silence. I'm gone.
Went to my FLAPS. Unfortunately, ownership has changed since I last visited. They were unfamiliar with the make, also. tHey did pick up the phone though, and called someone. Reply back was "they haven't made that part in ten years. You'll have to cut one out of material yourself."

I found a listing in an old NAPA catalog I have. Part number F17802. Went to NAPA online and couldn't get any thing to come up.

Original Stude part number is 194537. SASCO and Stude Int'l interchanges it with 680291.

Does anyone have a number I can take to a FLAPS and get one locally? This can't be too complicated of a gasket, can it[?]

Make a tracing from your exhaust pipe flange, showing inlet size and stud locations. Take it to your FLAPS and tell them that's what you want. Or, get one of everything they have and tell them you'll return what doesn't fit.
Are you dealing with an actual auto parts store, or one that hires kids who need a job because the local McDonalds isn't hiring?

The Pep Boys (M,M,& J)--yes, like you said. My FLAPS, before it changed hands was a good source. I mentioned this before on this forum: Parts counter is at the back of the store. I walk in, "Can I help you?"
      "Studebaker."
      "Yeah.."
      "'62 Hawk."
      "Yeah..."
      "Brakelight switch."
He had it looked up (in a book) before I made it all the way back to the counter.
"I'll have it here by "3:30."[:X]
Unfortunately it changed hand in the last year.[xx(]

I took my old gasket to a muffler shop and got one. If you don't have one, do as suggested, and trace the flange and holes and take it with ya.

I took an old header pipe to a nearby Midas shop, to show them the size I needed. They gave(?) me 2 flanges and 3 gaskets to make a gizmo to replace my heat riser. exact fit.... $5.00

If it is for a '55 to '64 V8, you tell the bozos that you want an exhaust Flange gasket for a 1961 Ford Falcon 170 6 Cyl. you get a thick one with steel flanges around the pipe hole to prevent blowouts and seal with a uneven flange! [:0]

Autozone lists a Felpro MS8690S Exhaust manifold gasket. It's not available on line. I don't know if it's manifold/pipe or manifold/block.

The 680291 gasket has a steel liner which will prevent blowouts.
These were used on the Champion engined trucks.
If you have any Studebaker Champion engined car it would be advisable to stock up on a few.
I stock these at $4.00 each
