I don't understand the problem. I ran an aftermarket tach on my coupe for years and it had a pertronix dist. Aren't the hookups the same? And if not, why not? What am I missing?

Hi sals what i have read is that the pulse from the electronic dizzy is much greater than that of a set of points , so the original tach would be inaccurate or even damage the module in the dizzy,, correct me if im wrong , Ray

Do not send it to AutoInstruments. They had mine 1 1/2 yrs ,charged me an arm and a leg, and ,of course, it doesn't work. A VDO tach will fit nicely and won't be real spendy or look out of place.

The tach in my 63 R2 Hawk worked fine with the Pertronix conversion.

Hi Tim i presume your tach in the 63 had a sender to it the au model doesnt thats why i believe i need to convert it,its a VDO German made tach

The sender was missing but I got the OEM sender from Meyer’s and it worked. I believe the previous owner installed the tach but it never worked. After I installed the Pertronix I located a sender and it worked as I said.

This is a VDO type tachometer which was used on Australian assembled 1962 GT Hawks (along with a VDO clock). Let me check into this, I will have an answer for you shortly.

Watever you do, make sure you send it to a real business. I sent my 61 Hawk tach to a forum member (who I won’t name because I got in trouble from the moderator last time) who supposedly has a real business (Rabid Snail Racing) along with $250 four years ago and I never saw my money or my tach again.

Just do do your research and make sure it is an actual business.
