  • Wheels / Tires: Wheel Vintiques Steel Wheels for Late Model Lark Type

I am considering the following wheels as a replacement for the stock wheels on my 1964 Daytona Sedan --

Wheel Vintiques 62-5612334 - 62 Series Ford-Chevy Style O.E. Wheels, Steel, Primered, 15 in.x 6 in., 5 x 4.5 in. Bolt Circle, 3.75 in. Backspace. These run about $84 each with free shipping if ordered from Summit Racing.

Tires would be P205 75R15 radials. These are close in diameter to the original 650 x 15 bias ply tires. Car came to me with P205 75R 15 radials on stock rims but tires are old and new radials will be installed on the new wheels after the wheels are painted the correct factory color.

Does anyone have any experience with this particular Wheel Vintiques wheel as a replacement or with Wheel Vintiques wheels in general?

    Thanks.

Thanks for posting, after the Nov Turning Wheels picture of the split in the rim, I thought I should replace mine as well. Have been looking but have not decided yet. Mine would be for a 1964 Cruiser.

I do not recall part numbers, but those dimensions are identical to the wheels I have installed on several Hawks, including two or three sets of Vintiques, from Summit. The 4" back space will rub in the front, especially on hard turns, but the 3.75" clears just fine. At least that is true for Hawks. Also, the full disc, Stude hubcaps fit those wheels like they were made for them. But you will need to use steel valve stems, to stop hubcap walk.

Thanks for the info on backspacing and steel valve stems. I wish I could get these with free shipping, but last i checked that only applies to the south 48.

Yep, no problem at all. Matter of fact, they even clear the larger, 12" brakes I have installed on several Hawks.

              Here is the Link:

Funny that they say it's a Ford OR a Chevy wheel on the 15X6, 5 on 4 1/2 In. Ad.
It does not show a "Unilug".

But I am sure they are just talking about their 62 Series Wheel, but should not have added it to both Chev. & Ford Ads.

A little odd that the Summit wheels do not have a beadlock on them.

I bought a set of those for my CE. when they came I weighed them. 30# each. I decided they were too heavy and returned them. The AM five spokes i have on it now weigh about 20# each. Ten # is enough feel in a rougher ride.

                      Lug Nuts for Wheel Change

This is all excellent information -- I would use metal valve stems since the Daytona has the optional full wheel discs -- I notice that there is even some "hubcap walk" with the stock wheels that pushes the valve stem to the side --

Are the stock lug nuts o.k. with the Vintiques Ford style wheels or would I need to change them?

This change is for safety purposes so I want to do it right.

                      Thanks again.

No you need to use larger lug nuts as I have done.

Thanks -- but aren't all the lugs on a '64 right hand thread?

Lug nuts on 1958 or '59 and up are all right-hand thread. NAPA carries Ford lug nuts (which one needs on Ford wheels due to the larger seat) that have a hex that is necked-down to 3/4". With those one can use the stock lug wrench.
