  • Interior: Avanti Carpet Images or Pictures.

My 74 Avanti has a carpet set in a box and I'm having a devil of a time sorting out the pieces. My guess is it's for an earlier model (63/64??) as there are 16 pieces to it. Would anyone have an image, picture or diagram of the carpet pieces laid out?

My 83 is of little use as it has a more recent carpet set from SMS and there are many less pieces (read larger coverage per piece) than what's in this box. The usual suspects (Google, Bob Johnstone, etc.) aren't cooperating today, probably my fault though.

    Thanks in advance - Bob

I don't have pics of a set, but I can describe the pieces. R&L lower door pieces, R&L kick panels, R&L lower console sides, R&L upper console sides, R&L firewall,R&L front floor, Rear seat riser, and finally the rear floor. If you have a later (post 63) there is also the rear of the console piece.

      This may help.

One note: The 1963 Avanti carpet set (from the factory) had several more pieces than the '64. I.e., Studebaker simplified the carpets in '64.

          Thanks, Brad et. al.

Here is a shot of the pieces in question. There are a pair of each and, I suspect they fit around the seats to the rear. I have located the pieces including kick panels, console trim, floor mats, etc but these remain elusive in there fit.

          Thanks again, Bob

Thanks for posting this shot. It's going to help as I continue to install the other parts of the interior.

Bob, the piece on the left, is the side console upper piece closest to the dash. It is for AC cars, and after glued on, a hole is cut for the side cooling vent. The next piece is the left firewall piece. the notch goes around the brake pedal brace. You will most likely need to cut notches for the steering column, and the heater plenum end bracket. Th final piece pictured is the passenger side firewall carpet. Again, you will have to trim for the heater hoses. Nothing I have ever purchased ever fit really well or as well as original.
