  • Brakes: Bit Of A Parking Brake Mystery

Slowly sorting out a newly acquired '50 Champion. Sans parking brake hardware front lever forward. Scrounged most of it now including the long rear cable. After (with much strenuous effort) removing a drum I noticed that the brake is missing the lever/pin and the link. I figured as much.

What's a mystery though is it doesn't seem that the cable fits through the port on the backing plate. It looks like there is a restriction (small washer?) about an inch in. I'm guessing this is not supposed to be there, but I am loathe to try banging this out until I can confirm it's necessity or not.

Any help would be appreciated. And if anyone has those levers and links and might want to part with them, I would be most interested. Thanks.

Think I've got all of those items and a set of backing plates if needed. Will check in the morning.

Might you have any of the 4 cable stays too?

I'll look. Parted out a 50 Champion last year and have most of the brake parts, minus the drums and shoes.
Got side tracked today with the granddaughter coming over for a few days. Nothing like trying to keep up with an 11 year old.......and she doesn't want to scrounge through car parts....
If you have any pictures of the parts, might help.

I would be interested in any other parts from this car. Rear axles?
            Thanks!

                    I have the (2) 1101-45 links.
I have the drivers side 1101-47 lever and pin. I know I have the pass side also, but haven't located it yet. Still searching.
Axles, hubs and drums are gone.

Ok. Let me know if you find the rest.
                      Cost?

                      Thanks.

Did figure out the cable mystery.
Tension is held on the parking brake
lever via an approx ten inch spring.
It is held in place by fitting what looks
like a small (spring?) washer to the
ferrel groove after it is inserted through
the channel on the backing plate.
                        Genius!

The "shrapnel" in the tube was
remnants of the old cable that
                        must have broke off.

Is this some kind of special washer,
or can it be bought readily?
