  • Jerry Palma

My uncle, and Bob Palma's Uncle, Jerry Palma of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away last Thanksgiving. He died at the age of 87 from complications of Parkinson's disease. Jerry was the salesman at Snider Studebaker in Indianapolis during the summer of 1964 when Bob and I discovered the Studebaker known as the Plain Brown Wrapper. It was brand new and sitting with several other new Studebakers behind a chain link fence at Studebaker of Indianapolis, one of the three Studebaker dealers in town. I decided to buy the car, so Bob and I immediately went to Snider Studebaker and asked Uncle Jerry to see if he could get it from the other dealer. It took several days, possibly because the salesman at Studebaker of Indianapolis thought I might buy the car from them, but Jerry finally got it. In 1957, I was with Jerry when he purchased a new 1957 Silver Hawk 289/overdrive. We had a lot of fun in that car. Those experiences with Jerry and his Hawk caused Bob and me to have a strong, life-long interest in Studebakers. Jerry later owned a 1963 Daytona Wagonaire and then a supercharged 1963 GT Hawk. Jerry was much loved by his friends and family, and he will be sorely missed.
