  • Jerry Kurtz

I just received a call from Chester Bradfield, he informed me that Jerry Kurtz passed away this morning.

For those that don't know, Jerry was an extremely talented fabricator, machinist, and car restorer... And above that, one hell of a nice guy. He always treated me like an old friend and visiting with him at the various SDC meets was always a highlight. In Stude circles he was most well known for the 1939 Cabover Coca Cola truck that he restored.

One of my favorite memories of Jerry was while in attendance of the 2011 International Meet in Springfield. A bunch of us had gone out to dinner and when walking out of the restaurant, Jerry asked if I wanted to drive his '37 Coupe Express back to the hotel. Driving the truck was fun, but the highlight was being able to just hang out with him for a bit.

Sorry to hear that, but I know he's been sick for a long time. Jerry was both talented and interesting to talk to. Thanks for posting.

Jerry had been in failing health for several years. May he now rest in peace. He will be missed. I always enjoyed seeing him and visiting with him through the years.

Jerry loved his 1937 Studebaker which he had owned for many years. Back in 2016, Jerry, Dave & Janet Thibeault, and I drove our cars to the top of Mt. Washington, in NH. Jerry was always seen at shows and swap meets with transmissions he had converted to have overdrive, accompanied by his little dog Murphy. Additionally, he was a knowledgeable Civil War historian who gave me and my wife Jane a guided tour of the Gettysburg battlefield. It's tough to lose guys like Jerry!

Just wanted to post Jerry's obituary. He was a friend and a great member of the SDC and keystone Region.
