  • Eddie Parmer

Hello, I am Logan Snyder the Grandson of Eddie Parmer. I made this account for him and his Wife awhile back but didn't get approved until now. Anyway my grandfather Eddie Parmer was a Studebaker parts dealer in the small town of Van Wert Iowa 50262 for many many years. I believe he started doing this in the 80s or 90s can't recall at this point. In 2010 Eddie was forced to retire due to an accident that indefinitely changed his life for his remaining years. I know he talked about how many customers he served overseas and all over the country. He was always so happy to meet new people and to help them with their Studebakers. He passed away sadly August 21st 2023. I know he would have wanted me to share the word out to anyone who may have knew him and whom ever he dealt parts to. If anyone here happens to read this and see this. If anyone would have any stories. I would love to hear about them sadly time is never on anyone's side and I missed out on a lifetime of memories and stories that I could have been told. I want to thank anyone who had the time to have known him I know you all made his life and his passion of Studebakers all the worthwhile.

Your grandfather used to advertise in Turning Wheels back in the day, and I bought used parts by mail order from him several times. Good quality used parts at fair prices and he was always enjoyable to talk with on the phone. I always wondered what happened to him and how he was doing. My condolences for your loss. He was a good man.

Your grand father was one of the finest men I ever knew. Bought many parts for projects, from him for years, back in the day. Not so active anymore, and just saw this.

I paid him a visit once, in the late 90's, after I retired from the US Army. Started out as a fishing trip, but ended up paying a call on him at his farm. Spent most of the day showing me around, but finally just had to show me his parts. That did it for me. Went from being a fishing trip to being a parts buying trip.....

Boy, it took all afternoon to go through, pick out and load the parts, but I drove away with a 1 ton long wheel base Ford F-350 Crew Cab loaded inside and out, front to back with enough NOS parts to build a couple trucks and a Hawk, or two. There was just enough room for me to squeeze into the driver seat. Can't tell you how many boxes of parts I took home to Texas that day, or how many pieces of NOS sheet metal, chrome and stainless trim, small parts of all kinds, but it was a bunch. By golly, I think I still have a piece or two laying around here some where, took me a minute, or two to go look, but, yes, hanging up in the barn, I still have a pair of NOS truck fenders I bought from him............ Still has the tag on them!

Really though, the best part of the trip was finally meeting Ed, in person, after corresponding through the mail (really wrote letters to him and Don Gay back in those days) and talking with him over the phone for many, many years. Having a home cooked meal at lunch was an extremely nice touch, too! Some body sure was a good cook, and it weren't him!

The man himself was one of the most honest and genuine fellas I ever met, or had the pleasure of dealing with and knowing. Sadly, as the years have gone by and our paths diverged, I lost touch with him. The thought of his passing has made the light of day a bit dimmer, but the knowledge that he has gone on to a finer place warms the heart.

I ordered parts from Mr. Parmer before I belonged to the Studebaker Driver's Club, I probably found his ad in Hemmings Motor News back around 1990/1991. I had purchased some parts from him for a six-cylinder 1963 Lark 4-door sedan.
In 2009, I was driving a 1963 GT Hawk into the international Studebaker meet in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, when I see a gentleman with a name tag that read 'Eddie Parmer', so I stopped and chatted with him for a bit as I had never met him before as I either dealt with him over the phone or possibly through the U.S. Mail.
I am sorry for your loss Logan, your grandfather was a good man to do business with.

Eddie was another one of the Original "Good Guys", there are not many of them left any more. Over the years I purchased several parts from him and we got to meet up at a few Studebaker meets. He is missed!
