  • NBCSN New Reality Car Show Mobsteel -' 53 Packard

Seen this new show last night. I don't know if it was mentioned here yet. It takes place in Detroit. It featured a nice green '53 Packard 4dr. I think it's a Clipper. They pulled the engine and had it rebuilt. They put air ride suspension on it and custom steel wheels. The chrome was restored using the spray chrome method. Turned out pretty nice. The also had a '55 Clipper on it too. One of the guys on the show must really like Packards as he had two tattoos of them on his arm.

The guy who owned the Packards is not a regular on the show. His project car just got lucky to be picked by the producers for this episode. I was really happy to see they did not trash that great Packard 8 engine. Those big 9 bearing beasts were heavy but sure ran great. The spray chrome seemed a lot more involved that what I saw a couple of years ago on an episode of Jay Leno's Garage. Still, I nice alternative to the real thing. I thought the car came out pretty nice, even though I always prefer to see them restored to original. I'd drive that baby in a heartbeat.

What caught my eye wasn't the car but the bridge at the old Packard plant that had been restored. There may be some life left there yet!
