  • Movers Blankets for Car Covers

I have a full size car cover that I keep my on Chevelle when sitting in the garage. I decided the other day that I wanted a little more protection for the Chevelle other than the car cover.

So yesterday I went to Harbor Freight and purchased seven movers blankets for $5.00 each. I covered the Chevelle with the mover blankets to give the car more protection while stored in the garage.

The movers blankets measure 72 inches by 80 inches nice and thick very soft and worth the purchase price in my opinion.

One thing you might want to be careful of is moisture. If your building is well ventilated you might not have a problem, but when you have days with pretty big temperature swings from cold to warm, the metal will have water condense on it. In those instances it probably would not hurt to pull everything off until it is all dry again so you do not have any problems with water retention...

    Good luck.

Well...could be just the thing. Especially if you can teach the mice to rip the stuffing out of the blankets and reinforce the stuffing in your car seats instead of the other way around. Next would be to teach the nasty little vermin to go outside to pee.

If I had a very nice professionally built garage, I'd never risk scratching the paint by abrading it pulling a cover on and off repeatedly. Even worse is the drafty pole barn/man cave I built myself. If I had a car cover, I would have to constantly wash the cover.

Speaking of covers...today I went to the Cycle Gear store to buy a motorcycle cover to replace my 14 year-old cover. When I saw the price of the covers, (I could really afford it) my "caso" nature kicked in and I decided the old one will do for now. Instead I bought a new BUTT COVER (a pair of reinforced riding jeans). Their motorcycle covers will be on sale next month.

Then again...if I can find a coupon... there's those Harbor Freight blankets

Thanks for advice but my garage isn't subject to wild temperature swings from day to day. However I will keep an eye on things. My garage is well insulated and I have indoor outdoor carpeting on my garage floor which I park my Chevelle on which does a very good job of helping block the moisture that can work its way up through the concrete.

I built my garage 15 years ago and have kept my Chevelle in the garage with a car cover on it never had any problems with mice getting into either one of my vehicles when both my Packard which I sold and Chevelle were stored in the garage.

As stated prior I park my Chevelle on indoor outdoor carpeting and the garage has electric heating and ac.

If you have the correct kind of car cover then you should have no trouble with car cover scratching your paint. I have owned my Chevelle since 1986 and have used a car cover on it from day one. I have never had any problem with the paint being scratched by a car cover.

This was many years ago but a buddy had a '69 Z-28 he left at his parents home when he spent a year competing in the South East Asia War Games about 1971 or so. He left it with movers blankets covering it. When he returned home and removed the blankets the paint came off with them. A good lesson there.

While typing my posts on this I left out one important fact. I am using the blankets along with my full size car cover. Putting the car cover on my Chevelle first then the blankets over the car cover

I want to say Thanks for the advice and will keep a close eye on things. It's certainly not like I am going away for a year and leaving the car sit un-attended.

Hey Jonn, thanks for the posting and giving us a chance to pick on you. My first thought was to throw out a quip that if I parked a Chevy in my building, I'd want to cover it up too!

Then, not knowing how your day was going, how sensitive you are about your cars, and how quick we sometimes get offended...I thought...Naaa, don't do it.

What I'm watching for now...is the documentary from one of the TV networks about all the bacteria, disease, and plagues spread all over the world by making and marketing "moving blankets" consisting of dirty unclean discarded scraps from third world countries!

But...that would probably be a stretch...cause undue anxiety

Besides...if you do have a cat...the blankets will make a nice soft high place to lie in wait... watching for those pesky mice.
