  • Three million miles in one car

You remember Long Island's Irv Gordon, don't you? If not, he is the guy who has traveled around in his red Volvo P1800S since he bought it in 1966. Now, he's getting close to putting 3 million miles on the clock.

Irv Gordon Bought his Volvo the same year that Studebaker was closing it's doors on the auto plant. He's going to hit 3 million miles any time now. I have to admit, I'm impressed with how well he's kept the car maintained.

What's the longest you've ever been with one car (if measuring in miles)?

Volvos were assembled in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in Canada from 1963 thru 1998. The 120 series/Amazon assembled in Dartmouth was called the 'Canadian' and would have used a few US and Canadian-sourced components to minimize the duty on them.

Amazons were also assembled in Belgium, It's quite normal for car-companies to do their final put-together in other countries & US or Canadian didn't mean much difference to a swede in the 60's, whatever huge difference there might have been.
I've only owned 18 of them that I remember right of just now + some PV's & Duett's so who am I to know.
& I mostly got them for prices of a secondhand moped while my other ride was being repaired.
But I still have a soft spot for the B16 generation thou...

& they handle greater than most front-wheel driven cars in snow too, it's all about balance.

Pardon if I interject for a minute on a separate issue here. Surely our own program couldn't have come from this line of think........nahhhhhh!!!

Hey, His car has the same hub caps as I have on my 544! If I get the brakes fixed maybe I too can drive it for 3 million miles. Then again, I get tired if I drive 75 miles to Redondo Beach.

The original Volvo 1800s bodies were built in the UK by Jensen and shipped to Sweden for mating with chassis and engines. Rust was a problem, so the Swedes brought body production in house. I 'm pretty sure this car (judging by date) has a Swedish body.

It was only the first year that Jensen built the P1800.

                  & PlainBrownR2: what's my program?

& by the way, has anyone (-else but me) seen the Amaxon prototype pictures...?

                          I sold a turquoise '71 P1800 & a 64 Champ to get a 63 Champ. Mine only had 270,000 miles. What a ride it was. And only 4750 built in 1971.
In hindsight I did spend a small fortune in repairs & upgrades, but isn't that half the fun?
