Tivo’d a movie the other day. Dunno when it was actually on but it’s a 1985 movie called “Mischief”. Kind of an “American Graffiti” wannabe. Takes place in 1956. AND a ’50 Studebaker cheap-o Champion 2-door belongs to the family of one of the chief protagonists. Slightly scatilogical trailer: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1013...hief/trailers/
But you never see the family. Just the nerdy blond kid, with the motorcycle-type next door neighbor. This MC-type, Eugene, always dresses in black but is a Fonz-type—a good guy. During their 1st conversation, Eugene asks nerdy, Jonathan, what kind of car his parent’s have.
“Studebaker.”
“Studebaker? Ha! Girls don’t --- --- in Studebakers.”
“They don’t?”
“No. Chevys, Mercs and Fords. But a Studebaker? A Studebaker is worse than a DeSoto.” (A lot EUGENE knew—they do J In both!)
There are the usual boy/girl things going on, the girl with braces on her teeth who has the hots for Jonathan, the usual snooty rich kid with the red/white ’55 Chevy convertible and the beautiful GF. This guy and his ‘crew’ pick on Eugene, constantly. Primarily because the GF has the hots for Eugene.
Finally, Jonathan learns how to be cool with girls. In one scene, he and the girl he’s been after for the whole movie are parked in the Studebaker, things getting hot and heavy. Suddenly the door flies open and they fall out.
The girl says, “Jonathan, you’d better get that that door fixed. Someone could get hurt.”
Jonathan says, “Well, what did you expect? It’s a Studebaker.” (Of course, the pic on the DVD is of the Chevy. And the panties in Jonathan's right hand were airbrushed out for the DVD and SOME [not all] of the posters for the movie.) http://cedmagic.com/v-title-database...ischief-1.html

Finally, after a few more fights, dates and ‘50’s songs, Eugene and the GF ride off together and Jonathan takes the Studebaker and bashes the ’55 Chevy, front and rear, supposedly to get back at the rich kid for picking on Eugene. Really made a mess of that Chevy. And they were real cars, too, not models. You see the bumper tearing up the car, especially from the rear. Really bashes it.
One problem. They used AT LEAST 2 Studebakers to do the the bashing. A '51 and a '50. Same body style, same color, just 2 different cars. Pretty obvious here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PAnuDdid6s (If you have virgin ears, you may wanna turn the sound off. Or beware the strong language.)
If you look closely, you'll notice that, since all '51s had a one-piece windshield, they stuck a strip of chrome in the middle of both the windshield AND the back glass, to make it look like the '50.
I’ll bet that director felt NO ONE would notice that one! HA!!
Sorry, Charlie---I DID!!
John
P.S. The braces come off, the nerdy girl is (SURPRISE!) BEAUTIFUL and THAT girl and Jonathan go to the movies together.
