  • 1950's School bus needed for motion picture work

I just got a call from my agent that my Studebaker (and Edsel) are potentially up for a part in some motion picture but they also need a fifties school bus.
It can be any size, any marque (Studebaker, Ford, GM--they don't care, just vintage 50's and stock looking on the outside).
I do not have a vintage school bus, but maybe somebody out here knows somebody who does.
Shooting will be in the Southern California area. Exact date unknown.

The company might agree to trailer a vehicle from out of Southern California to the location.
Bus owner can set their own price for the rental (within reason. Cars are paid $200 to $350 a day, depending on what they have to do).

As far as the bus being damaged or driven by prop men--no.
With this particular booking agent, you do any driving yourself (and get the pay as an extra for it, if it drives) and can stay with the vehicle at all times.

    Any takers?

Sounds like fun. I don't have a bus though.

Dave does but they might need to repaint it for the part.

In the meantime- would you mind shooting me the info in a PM?

If nothing else- I know a few other folks who might be more able then myself.
Too bad they don't have a StudeBus like me!!!

THAT bus looks exactly like what he says he is looking for. I have sent you his cell phone number in a private message.
Let's get a Studebaker bus into this movie!

                    Dave,
Film producers pay well for use of the vehicle. A few hundred bucks would pay for brakes.

For a vehicle like this they pay more than a FEW hundred a day. And if they need it multiple days...well, lets just say, you are paid by the day times the number of day.
Best thing might be the pay, but my personal favorite reason for doing this kind of work is the unlimited gourmet food. I'm not talking about craft services, which is typically fruit and coffee and such. I'm talking about the caterers. And it is all free. Don't ever skip breakfast or lunch on a film location.

                        timing is everything...

So I talked with Chuck earlier this morning.
He seems like a nice guy and is all business.
He asked a couple quick questions and called me right back with sad news.

Just about an hour prior to that call--
                        SONY had booked another bus...

Bet he'll keep you in mind for NEXT time though.
He never forgets a hard to find vehicle, and often asks for buses.
