Love those old Checkers. My dad bought a '63 Checker wagon new. It had a Continental OHV 6 in it. They hadn't gone to Chevy engines yet, then. The worst thing about that car was the integrity of the body. It shook and rattled so much that it actually made a Studebaker seem tight in comparison!

I've often wondered what happened to all those airport limos...

I remember when it was common to see those Aerobuses on the highways.
              I also owned/own Checker stock.
I don't remember what diesel engine Checker used. Anyone?
I don't remember ever seeing an Aerobus in Checker cab yellow.
For awhile, IBM had Checker sedans to shuttle employees around to the various buildings on the East Fishkill, NY site.
I like those door mounted truck style rear view mirrors. I often wished that limousines had better mirrors.
I noticed the radial tire and then realized that the picture is "recent" and not from 1969.
The cab next to the Aerobus is indicated to be a 1969. How can you tell the year of the Aerobus? I know them by some running changes, but not that definetly. I think that the Aerobus is newer than the cab next to it.

EDIT: Until 1964, Checker sedans/taxis used Continental engines and the Aerobus used a Chrysler V8 then.

                Detroit Diesel 3-53.

The Detroit Diesel rep here mentioned it to me not long ago.

When I was in basic training at Ft. Dix in N.J., there were Checker cabs all over the base. A soldier could travel anywhere on base for a quarter. I remember coming back to Dix after Christmas leave during a snow storm. I got into the Checker, paid my quarter, and that car never faltered getting me back to my training regiment.
