  • J C Taylor offering tow-in with the antique auto insurance

My last J C Taylor renewal has a box where I can agree to towing for $12 a year for all my cars. Anyone get this, have any experience with the service? I have auto club coverage, but this appears to specialize on our hobby cars. Any advantages you can see?

I got the same offer Paul, I didn't go for it as my wife had just signed me up for AAA. She got hooked up with AAA because of the old cars but have never used it for one of them. Used it once when her Chrysler blew a thermostat housing, once when Josh and I locked the keys in the Night Runner, and when my Diesel Dually broke a P/S braket.

I think i'll go for the $12.00 OPTION NEXT YEAR. just to try it out.

I have it with Haggerty, Paul. I mean, $1 a month is one big coffee at McDonald's, and I'd imagine the towing operators contracted would be a little more careful with a collector car, on average...or at least you'd have a bigger wedge against them if they weren't.

'Had to use it once. 'Went for ice cream in the 1956 Packard Clipper hardtop many years ago and a piece of linkage broke inside the transmission when I shifted out of Park to leave, rendering the car immobile until the transmission pan was removed!

Nothing you'd want to repair in a Dairy Queen parking lot on a huge Packard, so I was glad to have it flat-bedded to my garage at no charge. BP

I have towing on all my cars with State Farm. Used it a couple times. You pay for the tow, then take the bill to the agent. Check written on the spot.

I once had a vehicle towed from a somewhat distant location to home for my repair. You can only claim and be reimbursed or a local tow if you do that.

Having the total choice of service provider is why I've always stuck with this and not gone with an auto club.

My last claim was last year when the fuel pump failed on the 60 Lark Convertible 3 miles from home.

I think that they are trying to catch up to Hagerty. Hagerty's plan includes flat bed "towing". You can even pay extra, in two steps, to get longer distance towing included.

If you don't have AAA Plus, the $12 per year is a good deal. I know that my AAA coverage is up to 100 miles. Is the coverage with J.C. Taylor similar?

              J. C. Taylor says 50 miles flatbed, but more miles may be authorised according to the situation. I have a motor club which covers anything I'm driving, but my reaction was maybe the $12 company would be more tuned to old cars. I think I used my coverage five times in 17 years- twice for locking my keys in my truck and three times on Avanti failures.

That tells me that you should stick with the non-Avanti Studebakers <G>.

It's an obsession. I can't stay away from them, but I'm getting gun shy.

As a former tow service owner and long time old car collecter my advice would be to protect yourself and your car with the protection offered. A lot better then having to have a friend bring out a chain or a trailer to get your baby home. I have three different towing policies to protect my cars. Hppefully I will never need them.

I just got my renewal information from J C Taylor. I called to see if the service was offered. They have not been able to offer the coverage in three states. NY, Mass., and the golden state of California. They are working on it.
