  • SodaStream for my diet Dr Pepper addiction

I bought a SodaStream home soda dispenser to make my own soda's at home using their "Dr Pete" concentrate and found it was pretty close in taste and would save me money and the hassle of hauling a few six packs a week. Than I found Sam's Club sold 5 gallons of real diet Dr Pepper syrup for $60.00 to save even more money. I might even buy a Co2 adapter off ebay to give me a years supply of Co2 instead of using the small, refillable SodaStream canisters.

If I drank the non diet version, I'd weigh over 400 pounds by now, so the loss of the cane sugar version does not bother me.

My wife has jokingly suggested, several times, that we get one of those. I've opined that all I need is one more kitchen counter gadget But good to know they work as advertised!

Diet DP has the highest salt content of any of the diet pops, John. Go easy on the stuff. I had a friend who was kind of a health nut - biked everywhere he went, and he was always drinking diet DP. When he collapsed in the street one afternoon, the doctors determined he was dehydrated from all the salt intake. Now he's dead. So... draw your own conclusions.

Then there's the loss of bone density from the phosphoric acid in cola drinks... My wife used to drink a lot of Pepsi. She found that she was a prime candidate for osteoporosis. Her primary care doctor and one specialist she was seeing told her to lay off cola drinks. By drinking milk and faithfully taking calcium she has reversed the bone loss much to the surprise of her doctor. The late Doc Schielwachter of our chapter, a renowned oncologist, used to get very upset when he saw people drinking diet sodas. He used to even accost people carrying them. His contention was that he saw too close a correlation between consumption of diet drinks and brain tumors.
Years ago I got an email about all the uses for Coca Cola. One was to dip a wad of aluminum foil in Coke and use it to scrub rusty chrome. I tried it and it did work (to a degree). I have never tried the old story about dropping a nail in a Coke and leaving it for a couple days. Supposedly the nail is consumed by the acid.

              You gotta go sometime.

Yes, we should take car of ourselves, but as far as heath sins go, diet soda is pretty far down the list. I've never drank or smoked...I think that should allow me to drink diet sodas until Dublin, Texas (until this month, the long-time home of sugar cane Dr. Pepper) freezes over.

Well, it froze over. And I am totally broken-hearted. Don't know what the meaning of life is anymore. (Wonder if my collection of Dublin cans, bottles, and memoribilia will increase in value?)
