My dad had an expression that kinda sums it up. He'd probably say they "resembled the north end of a south bound mule!" There is a bunch of these type so called reality shows that are competing for the same low ground. How 'bout the cursing idiots on the oil drilling rigs in "Black Gold?" Some of the pawn star wanna be copycat programs, and the folks chasing wild hogs.John Clary

I just thought about more stupid shows that qualify for proving that certain members of the human species suffer from "arrested evolution." That would be some of those "repossession" shows and another one about "moonshiners."
The only people more disgusting than the filmed participants are the creeps that produce this stuff. I put them on par with those knuckle dragging, vulgar, foul-mouthed comedians who lack the intellect to entertain without making you feel the need for a shot of penicillin afterwards.

Some may recall that the boom in "reality" shows was a Hollywood writers' strike. They continue with the legal supposition that the programs are not scripted. I find that harder to swallow than the actual content. They bring high-power and action pistol winners onto the gun shows, then have them do shooting games a kid might pay a quarter to play at a carnival -- but TV won't cover an actual shooting competition. Humbug.
Over the holidays, we had a tree carved into an elaborate sculpture in the front yard. The artist, who stays pretty busy at his craft, is on the short list for a Canadian-produced reality fest on chainsaw carvers. I pointed out how all these shows have the same cast of characters, including the moronic sidekick who screws up everything he's sent to do. And, on cue, his ground man (who adjusts the scaffolding, rough-changes chains, keeps the saws clean, tends the compressor, scavenges cutoffs...you know) said "I've been understudying for this role my whole life."
High larity ensued.

Regarding "Ax Men" - I enjoyed the first season only, since most of the crews were in Clatsop and Columbia County, Oregon, which is just north and west of the Portland, OR area. Also, I am involved in dirt track stock car racing in Columbia County (River City Speedway in St. Helens, OR) and there were crew members and drivers that were active in logging. But lately, on the few times I check it out, all I hear is "beep, beep" and more beeps . So I don't bother watching any more.

Yep...I rarely watch "Ice Pilots" for similar reasons, despite the splendid assortment of vintage transport aircraft on screen there. Most of this putative "reality" programming is the TV equivalent of filler ads in a magazine or newspaper. Useless, crass and venal. And predominantly fake into the bargain. Yech. I do admit to watching the odd episode of "American Pickers" in the hope of seeing a Stude in a barn or out in the weeds, plus the cast of that show seem a bit less lowbrow and more clean-spoken than most.

Point(s) well taken..
I occasionally watch American Pickers, sPawn Stars, just to see the stuff they put on.
That's interesting..
Sort of like watching American Choppers.
I liked watching Rick build gas tanks...
But the scripted squabbling on them all is just too lame...

" If ya luh yur cunty, ya gahnah ha ta luh moonshine "
OOPs I put a coma in there, he does not know what punctuation is.
Geniuses all of them.
I am not a child, swearing happens. But to watch a show that you can not even follow because of all of the bleeps....no thanks. I dont know how anyone could watch that stuff. If a show has bleeps, I am out.
Of the semi-reality show on nowdays, I dont mind American Pickers, although their girl Daniel does swear some and I really dont like women that swear, and once in awhile Pawn Stars if the commercials show something interesting. I also don't mind Flying Wild, the Alaskan bush pilot show since they seem like nice, decent people for the most part.
The worst are when they start make similar shows that are the same concept but they try to find an even more obnoxious crew. Like the Pawn Stars rip off called something like hardcore pawn?
Any of those that start to become more about the characters that the theme of the show, Im out.

Luckily Nat Geo and PBS with some of their programming still are watchable. Did I really say PBS was watchable SHHHEEEESH!!! TV must be going downhill.
Even some that started with a chance, like Swamp People has been ruined by the aforementioned issues.
