Would a '56 Canadian model have a Chevrolet-based drivetrain, Craig, or a "real" Pontiac V8?

(I'm assuming a Laurentian would have a V8 and not a six; correct?) BP

It will have a Shivverlet drive train in that one whether a V8 or not.

Or a 1965-66 Studebaker V8 (ducking flying objects here )?

          Hi Craig

Thanks for posting the photo, nice looking car we rarely see stateside. Do those have the 115" wheelbase of the Chevrolet? Interesting that GM Canada had to make a front clip and possibly quarter panels to fit the Chevrolet basics but accomodating Pontiac styling features. I understand that Pontiac was at one time the best selling car in Canada, surprisingly outselling even Chevrolet.

Canadian Pontiacs (Parisienne, Beaumont, etc.) were Chevrolet based as late as 1969 and were built/sold in RHD configuration as well in Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and other RHD nations.

I've seen several Cdn Ponchos registered here in the USA i.e. a 1961 Parisienne 4 door hardtop (283/3spd), ca. 1967 Laurentiene (sp) with a Chevy Six/PG, 1966/67 Beaumont 2 door hardtop with a 12 bolt Chevy rear end and built V8, etc. The Beaumont was registered in BC, Canada though.

I think that the '55 and '56 Pontiacs were some of the best looking cars they every produced. Well balanced design.

What 6 cylinder engine did Pontiac use in its Canadian cars in 1955 and 1956? I believe they were using a flathead 6 cylinder in 1954, was this not the case for 1955 or 1956?

Probably the 235 Chevy Stovebolt since the 1950's Cdn Ponchos were Chevy 201/Belairs under the skin.
