  • Flooding in Central Penna.

Some type of retaining dam 20 miles North of my sons house broke and a wall of water reported to be six foot high came through some small towns doing much damage. The wall of water hit my sons house everyone got out ok but him and his family may have lost everything.

it may be several days before we can get into the house to see how bad it is damaged. Right now I am just heart broken as to what happened. Being that the house wasn't considered to be in a flood plain they have no flood insurance.

The family is staying at the in-laws right now, but we may be having some house guests for an extended period of time.

That's too bad. Lot of that happening this year. We're getting steady rain today in CNY, but maybe 50 miles south and east they're projecting 6" from last night till tomorrow night. As for me, I'm topographically very high, so flooding is one issue I don't have.

Prayers out to your son and family. Thank God they're safe.

Geeze, John; it sounds like the famous 1889 Johnstown Flood! 'Hope they fare better than those folks did. BP

Will keep all in my prayers, John.
I know Jersey Shore is not "high ground" either. Drove in over the mountain from Elimsport many many times. Occasionally had to go the long way--Rte 15 through Williamsport.
Understand it is not supposed to rain next Monday.

Rockne10: My son lives in the eastern end of Lycoming County in a small town near Hughsville. From all the reports I have seen the far Eastern section of Lycoming County has been hit very hard from flooding. Jersey Shore will be spared any major flooding.

Thanks Every One for Your Concerns and Prayers.

Started taking things out of my sons house today what a mess. Better than an inch of mud on the floors in the house, basement completely flooded and broke the oil tank. The house smell of fuel oil though out both floors of the house.

Other persons helped move my daughter in-laws beauty shop equipment as that building also may get flooded. My son and his family are taking it on the chin right now as are so many other families in Easter Penna effected by this record setting flood.

Just turned 62 in May and retired was going to start enjoying retirement, but looks like I have plenty of work ahead of me helping out my son.

We left at 7:30AM yesterday and drove over 400 miles trying to get through eastern PA. Every interstate highway is closed. We then checked on US6 and it was not on the closed list. We headed north and got on US6 and we headed west. This was maybe around 3:00PM. We drove for maybe 45 miles and we came to a bridge which was down to one lane. Just as we crossed a PA State Trooper coming from the west turned on his red and blues. I thought crap and I had finally had got rid of my speeding points. He just wanted us to know that a bridge ahead was under 30' of water and the road was being closed. He was very nice and said no one can go west across eastern PA. He also said he had been on the force for 20 years and had never seen anything like the present flooding situation. We drove through some water, but it was apparent that you can't get to IN from CT! Well maybe if we go via Florida and turn right or Montreal and turn left!

We arrived back home at 10:30PM last night. We drove 567 total miles in 15 hours at times under stressful conditions. Those same miles could have put us in Ohio where we had hoped to be, so we would have a shorter run on Friday. We just watched the Weather Channel and those poor folks in eastern PA and NY are in a world of hurt. Say a prayer for them and the responders who are confronted with huge challenges. We are thankful we are now safely at home, but disappointed a long anticipated visit will not happen at this time. We have had hurricane experience and now we can add flood. The bocce players this PM will say, "We thought you were out of town!"

It seems like the (Kendallville, IN) KHS All School Reunion is jinxed for us. The very sad incident ten years(2001)...we had tickets from Fort Myers to Detroit for Carol, her mother(now deceased), and me. The attack on the Twin Towers, etc. by the terrorists halted things and we couldn't get out of Florida. It makes me think I had better skip the reunion in 2021 and I probably will! We were looking forward to seeing our family and friends...but it never happened!

Last night we had dinner in Milford,PA after we conceded that we weren't going to IN. I remarked to my patient wife that it was long trip to go to dinner! I can now say I've been in the Wappinger Falls area!

This just our personal experience. Hope you don't mind.
