  • Interesting Review of Cars 2 by Roger Ebert

My wife sent me this link to a Roger Ebert review of the new movie, CARS 2 and told me especially to read the last paragraph. Studie people will love this!

For those of you who don't want to read the review, here is the last paragraph:

"Anyway, "Cars 2" is fun. Whether that's because John Lasseter is in touch with his inner child or mine, I cannot say. There remains one bone to pick. Although the hero of the 2006 film was a Hudson with the step-down design and there are AMC Gremlins in this film, as nearly as I can tell, Lasseter entirely ignores the greatest independent American automaker of them all, Studebaker. Maybe I missed one. I don't think so. There is a more obvious reason. Introducing a Studebaker Golden Hawk into this film would make all of the other characters look shabby."

Honest, guys; save your money. My wife is not a car person but went to see the original CARS movie on my recommendation. We both loved it; she, too, really did.

'Spent $15 for the two of us (Sr. Citizen pricing, you know) to see CARS 2 and wished I had my money and two hours back when it was over. As Ebert says, the plot is hard to follow. The subtle preaching about global warming, the evil oil companies, alternative fuels saving us all, etc., etc, is over the top and takes away from the genuine fun of the original movie. Wife agreed but stopped short of saying, "I told you so," after she had read the mixed, soft reviews.

Larry the Cable Guy as 'Mater is superb and there are a few laughs, but wait until you can rent it or see it at home on pay-per-view...for $3. It's worth every penny of that. <GGG> BP

Why do Hollywood types feel the need to preach to us about "Big oil" and alternative fules in what should be a fun kids film?
They probably feel guilty for having private jets based at Van Nuys...and an empty vacation home somewhere that is heated/cooled 24/7/365.

Thanks for the review from a similar-minded person. I still look forward to seeing it, but will wait until it hits our local drive-in, along with two other movies for $6/person. We enjoy this 50s-retro drive-in so much we can take marginal movies, no problem. Mostly, it's watching the kids enjoy the whole experience. This week it took me a tub of heavily-buttered popcorn AND an order of gravy fries to make it through 'Thor' and Transformers 3' <GG>
