Taxi commissions have no soul, no romance. The one here in DC made one of the local taxi companies remove from service a couple of late 1940s LWB DeSotos that it had restored as taxis for advertising purposes. It was always a nice surprise seeing them driving around town.Skip Lackie

Odd coincidence. One of the Charlottesville, Va taxi companies has/had a 1940s DeSoto taxi.

During the 1940s, Chrysler made a long wheelbase Desoto specifically for taxi applications. I clearly remember riding in them in New York City. As I recall, they were called Sky-Vue or something similar, as they had a sunroof over the passenger section. Enormous leg room in the back -- enough for two jump seats.

Is anything supposed to last more then seven years in out disposable society? Most of these Crown Vics had two lives the first as a police car and then as a cab. The police had to give them up first as Ford just chose to discontinue the production of the Lincoln/Mercury/Crown Victoria. Nobody wanted to see them go. Where I live you could drive these things forever!
