  • Anyone else remember Ideal Motorific toys?

When I was of elementary school age, I received an Ideal Motorific Racerific Wildcat for Christmas in 1967 or 1968. The Motorific cars were powered by two AA batteries and had interchangable bodies of varying scales or a chassis could have a 64 Mustang or Barracuda body or a Lincoln or Cadillac body. Later, probably for a birthday, my folks bought me a Motorific torture track set that you could by from DX gas stations after purchasing eight gallons of gas for $2.98 again in the mid to late 1960s.

I played with my Motorific set for years until I grew older, broke many pieces and eventually put the set on the shelf and that set moved from my parents house to my house and for that last 30+ years sat on a shelf in my basement. I also had an Motorific Action Highway set (with trucks) but it disappeared years ago.

Mom passed in late 2019 after a long slow decline, 2020 was the year of Covid and staying home. In the last year I have been collecting a few Studebaker parts for the eternal project so when I felt like working on the Lark, parts would be there.

I also started to pick up Marx deluxe level toy trains, I've picked up a few Marx E-7 diesels, ready to run and junk that I put back together in running condition. I have built a couple of train layouts to pass the time.

But back to Motorific: I started buying odd lots of track and repairable cars to amuse myself and reassemble my original Christmas set, replacing things I broke decades ago before I learned how to take care of things. I now have a small fleet of 1964 Mustangs that take up a lot less space than the real things.

\"I\'m getting nowhere as fast as I can\"
    The Replacements.

I have a couple sets and extra track. One has a firebird with it. Maybe that was a gas station set, it's small. I bought an extremely nice GMC tow truck from a co worker friend a couple of weeks ago. I think Lindberg copied it for their mini lindy. I buy them when I find them, usually when they're cheap. I have at least one computer car, it had different cams you could put in the chassis to change the steering patterns. I was born in 1969 but I like the toys of that era. I also have a marx train n turnpike set from the same co worker friend.

I bought a Tyco set in -84 when a toyshop had burned, still have it but never used it...
It's all much smaller than the usual trax & cars.
