Does Florida allow the use of year of manufacture plates?

I'd like to know if it is legal in Florida to use, a Year of Manufacture Plate, on a vintage car? Like a 1963 Florida plate on a 1963 vehicle? Many states allow it, but I don't know about Florida. And if it is legal, what are the requirements, procedure, cost etc.?

I live in Kentucky, and there is such a "program" in Kentucky. Here you must first get a Kentucky Antique Tag. Once you have been issued that tag, you can install a Year Of Manufacture Tag on your "antique vehicle", BUT you must have the Kentucky Antique Tag somewhere in the vehicle with you at all times, should you be stopped for some reason, as the registration is tied to Kentucky Antique Tag, NOT the Year of Manufacture Tag.

Most, if not all. When I was crafting a YOM law for DC in the mid-1990s, I tried to get a copy of every such law then in effect. At that time, there were at least 35 states and several Canadian provinces that had some sort of YOM law. That said, they vary greatly in their provisions and costs. In some cases, the YOM plate becomes the legal plate number -- though they often can't duplicate an existing valid number. In other states, the YOM plate is for "display only", and the antique/historic plate(s) remain the legal registration and must be carried in the car. Many states require them to have original paint and be legible -- others permit repaints in the original colors.

Texas, I have 1964 year plates on my Avanti. They must be original plates and in condition. The DMV inspects them at time of registration. They treat them the same as an antique plate and have to be renewed every five years.

I believe () Wisconsin's stance on year of manufacture plates is such as listed in post # 6. My 63R1089 has a never been installed 1963 Indiana plate from St. Joseph county waiting to get Wisconsin paper work so I will be legal.

In Ohio, you have to first register for Historical Vehicle plates that are kept in the vehicle.
You then can run YOM plates so long as they are clearly legible and in the original colors.

Have lived in three states that have YOM plate policies. Kentucky is probably the easiest to deal with - keep your antique plate in the vehicle and you can install your YOM plate - Studebaker friend had a German company makes him a new plate to display on his 38 Commander - finding original plates in KY is made more difficult because plates as had the county listed as well.

New York has had YOM plates for many years. I have them on our '59 Lark.

North Carolina is similar to many of the states addressed here. You have to have the up to date license plate in the car and then you can display a YOM tag on the vehicle. I am not sure how old a vehicle must be to be eligible to display a YOM tag. I also keep with my current license plate a copy of the law that allows the YOM to be used. I, and others in the state, have found that not all law enforcement personnel are aware of this program.

To answer the question in the title of this post: Yes.

You have to mail the plate, some paperwork, and a check to an office in Tallahassee. In a few weeks they send back the plate with a registration sticker. Your YOM plate then becomes your legal license plate. Plate condition is important, and the number can’t already be in use. There’s a gov’t website where you can check to see if the number is available.

The answer is...YES. I had 3 cars; 1 1963 n 2 for 1964 registered with Fl. Original plates. 1 sold my 63 GTHawk in January n still have that plate. You can contact Tallahassee n register those plates
both 64 cars are currently in NJ with Original plates
