The re-designed for 1973 Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon 4 door with its small (for the 70's) bumpers and European sourced interior. By '74 the whole thing just got bulky and un-attractive.

There were quite a number of '70's American 4 doors which I liked, but most of them were wagons or 4 door hardtops. There were a lot of duds with those ugly 5mph bumpers. If it has to be American-made, and a 4 door, and a sedan then a '73 Dodge Coronet would get a vote from me. cheers, Junior

The example given is an unusual modified car. It is a small (A-block) V8 sedan made to look a little like a police car by lowering it and adding police car wheels and police/taxi holely hubcaps.

I have a real soft spot for a four door hardtop wagon. I found a few Caddies that had been converted.....delicious!

I didn't recall there being any 4-door hardtops in the 1970's. Go ahead and list those that you like.

I mentioned previously I like the 1972 Monaco in a four door hardtop.

But there were other four door hardtops still on the market in the 1970's, including full-size GM until 1976, and Chrysler until 1978. Ford was the first to stop production of four door hardtops with 1974 being the final year. And Japan produced hardtops for their own market until the mid-'90's.

I have to conclude from the postings here, and my own impressions, that there weren't any really great looking 1970's 4-door sedans - except maybe the Jaguar XJ6, such as one that I owned in the 1980s. So, I'll offer up the 1961-68 Lincoln Continental as the last, truly good looking 4-door car in America. Do all current cars have to look like jelly beans?

Personally, I think the 64, 65,66, Studebaker were the best looking four door cars ever made. There style just did not have that four door look to them.

I found the following article on the Hagerty website, it appears to agree with many of us here:

Since this tread has gone off topic, as do many threads on the forum, since I wasn't born in the 40's I feel this is the most beautiful 4 door that if I find a long lost relative that I inherit more money than I would know what to do with, this car would be in my 20 stall garage.

As well as this 2 door

I may be biased in my opinion

                          Really? Seriously?

Of Course I am Seriously Biased on this one. I don't know what the price difference is between the 1955 Bel Air with an optional V8 and a 1956 President Classic but it to me in no contest in the looks department. Sadly, the negative publicity surrounding Studebaker Packard scared people off so they would not look at a Studebaker.

I had a '56 President Classic in Mocha and Snowcap. I loved and I miss it.

As I stated in Post #51, the full-size pillarless GM four door hardtops were made until 1976. 1975 & '76 models had ugly opera windows added.

I like your taste in cars. May I suggest you start a thread for "The best looking 4-door of all time" or something of that sort. I have a few suggestions for such a thread, such as a Cord Beverly sedan.
