  • What is your vote for the ugliest production car?

I'm doing this fun little poll that's exactly what the title says. For me, there is one obvious "winner." The Stutz Blackhawk. This rolling pile of baroque ostentation is so over-the-top, so flagrant, such an offence to the retinas, that even a Las Vegas casino owner would be embarrassed to drive it. It not only looks ugly, it also has a thoroughly rotten personality. Styled by Virgil Exner using the early 1970s Pontiac Grand Prix as a base, these things were LOVED by Elvis so much that he actually forced the company to sell him the prototype. Fitting, as "The King" wasn't exactly known for good taste himself. However, as insult to injury, these things regularly sell for around $100,000 according to Hagerty. Do people really care about Elvis that much?!

In short, whereas the GT Hawk is an example of neo-classical styling at its best, this is neo-classical styling at its worst.

Anyway, please do your worst below. I'm holding the puke bucket at the ready!

Jake Robinson Kaywell: Shoo-wops and doo-wops galore to the background of some fine Studes. I'm eager and ready to go!

1962 GT Hawk - "Daisy-Mae" - she came dressed to kill in etherial green with a charming turquoise inside. I'm hopelessly in love!

No Contest: Zimmer QuickSilver. Ether the Mustang stretch version or the cheap Pontiac Fiero Version.

    Take a look here: https://classiccars.com/listings/fin...er/quicksilver

Used to be the Pontiac Aztec, but almost any new Lexus with the gigantic upside down 1961 Plymouth "mouth" has beaten anything ever imagined...gross !!!!!

So Jake, don't hold back. Tell us what you really think.
I love Packards but I have never liked the 49/50 models. The front looks like the nose of a pig. They are a great driving car, however.

About the Stutz Blackhawk, though it is over-the-top with unique design elements, I find the front styling very interesting in that air can flow around behind the headlights and turn signals.
As for a Zimmer Quicksilver, I actually like the looks of them. Basically just a different front-end fastened to a Pontiac Fiero, it looks like a completely different car.

My vote for ugliest production car is still the Pontiac Aztec. I feel bad for any persons of Aztec heritage being that they are associated with such an ugly automobile.

Just about any 1973 thru early 1980's car with those big, ugly 5-mph bumpers that stuck out nearly a foot at each end. They did absolutely NOTHING for the looks of the car, and the fit & finish of those soft plastic filler panels in between only made them look worse.

FYI, the Stutz was not exactly a 'production' vehicle. It was a modified Pontiac Grand Prix, or a Bonneville depending if it was a 2 door or a 4 door, and handbuilt in Italy.

I won't say, 'cause I like the butt ugly Studebaker models anyway, just 'cause they're Studebakers.

Bah. I raced this one at La Carrera in 2003. There are plenty of uglier cars ! (although the Studes were the best) Despite loving Elvis I have to go with the Stutz Blackhawk as well.

The car in the photo is a 1957.

I stand corrected! Yes, it was a '57. I do stand by my vote for ugliest car though!

If you're counting these "limited production" cars, then the Peel P50.

lf you mean REAL production cars (like in the thousands), then a base 6 cylinder '61 Plymouth Savoy 4 door, black walls, dog dishes.

In 1961, my father had a 1961 Plymouth Savoy two door sedan with 318 and three speed. At that time, I thought that the car was ok (wouldn't trade for my1957 President Classic).

A lot of it comes down to beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Also, not all styling is timeless and should be compared relative to its time. Remember, all of these cars brought big bucks from many people when the were new. For example, 188,170 people purchased new full-sized Plymouths for the 1961 model year.
