  • New to me 1960 Lark

Thanks for allowing me to join. I am excited to learn from the experts here. I just picked up this 1960 Studebaker Lark with a flathead 6 and 3 on the tree. I found it about 3 hours away from me in Midland Texas. Its been a Texas car all its life, and with the exception of a bit of rust in the trunk and a couple spots in the floor I would consider it pretty solid. It shows about 18,000 on the odometer but I doubt that's original. It sat outside most of its life and the paint is baked off. It appears that someone redid the interior (I think) I got the engine running but it needs a good tune up and a new coil that I am waiting for from Amazon. It is missing the drivers door glass, which I will have to try and source. Its a pretty basic vehicle and it doesn't even have a heater which is cool. I plan to get the car running and driving and then decide on next steps. I may do a V8 conversion or turbocharge the flathead. Right now I want to make it roadworthy and putt it around. Thanks in advance for all the questions I will surely have.

Welcome! And that is s really nice solid looking 60...... It's my opinion you have a very good approach..... get it running and road worthy..... do a little cleanup and enjoy it while you decide what you want to do with it. We need to keep as many of these cars on the road that we can modified or not. Worse case scenario if you get it running and road worthy then decide it is not your cup of tea. At that point you can just flip it as you have gotten it to a stage that someone else can take it further.

    Just my 2cents

Enjoy the process.... and share here. Welcome aboard

A very nice '60 Lark VI Deluxe 2 door Sedan !

It is not common at all to see a '60 with '59 Tail light Lenses, which they appear to me to be.
They are flat on the rear, not with rounded outboard corners like a '60, what happens more often is '59's with the more available at times '60 Lenses.

Thanks for the welcome. I will take a look at the taillights. They appear original but I'm a Stude novice

I replaced the carb after I pulled it off and the thing was a mess. I ordered one off of Amazon for $60 and its installed and it really runs nice. Next up is to repair the rear brakes (shoes, wheel cylinders etc.), then the fronts and then on to sorting the wiring out that someone has hacked up a bit. I am on the hunt for a wiring schematic if there is one available.

The clutch engages smooth and I drove it into the garage under its own power. The only thing that stopped me from a quick around the block trip was the leaky wheel cylinder. Looking for PNs for rear brake components as well.

Thanks for all the support. Right now my goal is to get it mechanically sound and drive it a bit. Its such a sweet little car.
