Long time SDC Member Homer Hinchliff, of Willis Michigan, owns many '53/'54 Loewy Coupes. His most famous car is #929, a Ford powered 1953 Studebaker Commander named COMMANDER CODY. Homer is a member of the 200+ MPH Club at Bonneville. Please go to the YouTube link (below) to listen to Homer tell his colorful stories about his experiences at the famed Bonneville Salt Flats. This clip was captured by the WLEC's (Western Lake Erie Chapter) Steve "CaptainVideo" Rohde with an assistance by Heidi Seery at a recent SDC Chapter lunch & meeting in Monroe Michigan on 2/18/2023. I hope that you enjoy listening to Homer's stories as much as we all did.

I was with a Studebaker Bonneville racing team at the same time. We set a record of 255,26 mph in the A/CC class in 2005. The car number was 974 and " Lloyd "Hooley" Huffman was the driver. It was illustrated in the video in the picture of other Studebaker race cars, The team name was "just glad to be here",
We had the car spin out at 212mph and broke the chute mount/push bar off the car. I straightened it on the tongue of the trailer, and stuck a jack handle in the center of the tubing, and welded it up with a borrowed 110v welder powered with a borrowed generator well enough to go back out and set the class record. It's hanging in mt shop to this day.
We later set a record at the Ohio mile in the BB/FC class at just over 225 mph in a mile.
