I don’t have a YOM plate on my ‘53, just because the ‘53 Florida plate is orange with blue letters. Ugly.

But I do have one on the 61 Lark, and I’ve had them on some of my other cars. “11” is for the county I live in.

The last time I registered my truck (I have to go to the DMV office to do it) I actually DID run through the process from A to Z with the clerk that was helping me (really nice guy but had NEVER done a YOM plate registration before), the clerk at the next desk AND his supervisor. I had the two codes printed out (that I keep in the glove box in the truck) when I did it. We also ran through the correct forms and how to fill them out right and the Statement of Facts sheet. It took me about 3 hours. It's kind of hard to argue with someone when they are correctly quoting and have the proper Code documentation - YOUR documentation, to support their statements. And I pointed out the errors in the computer to them and filled out one of their stupid little cards to submit to DMV to make error corrections (as I have about 20 times before)

And I'll bet you another $100 I'll have to do it all over again next year. Been doing it that way despite correcting them for 20 some odd years now. (IDIOTS!)

OK, well I guess you noticed my Truck plates not having the designated "stacked COM, 1 letter and 5 numbers." (as designated in "Appendix 1E").

It's not a reproduction plate Rich, according to DMV of 20 years ago, it's original. There are always exceptions to "the rules." I asked about that (20 years ago) and talked to the supervisor of the YOM section when you could still call them, and they were still "happy" to be helpful. Nice guy, knowledgeable and informative. He must have spent an hour on the phone with me that day.

And he told me they released about 500 "off" "L" plates ("L100- L500") for some special "thing" one of the manufacturers "fleet things" was doing and that it was one of those plates (that's kind of what got me started on familiarizing myself with this process in the first place) He mentioned there were other exceptions for special circumstance outside the GENERAL PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION as well. I don't know if it's true or not, but they accepted it as a genuine plate and allowed it to go through registration. I felt no need to question or doubt him.

Which is good because I paid almost $500 to have them restored (and there was 50 years of rot and rust on them) before I put them on the truck! I doubt very seriously they would be that supportive (or even know about it) today. I also doubt they would know about any "off" or "special" plates but might let them through just because they don't know what they are doing. On that I, m sure we agree. Although, they have become much more (if not completely) rigid with these plates at the moment and tend to even reject the legitimate ones (for the stupid reasons I already talked about above).

This is 2023 California, and in the post covid state, they re-hire based on diversity, not competence!
