  • Time For a Fresh Coat of Paint

Have had this baby for nearly 40 years.
Did a cheap respray about 28 years ago for a friends wedding.
Time for another spruce up so I can enjoy her a little longer b4 I am too old to drive
All chrome and stainless already refurbished
Still in love with those 14x8 American Racing Ansen Wheels but will probably go to 15x8

Nice car, and the new paint will look great! For what it's worth. I like the 14" Ansens.
Tom Senecal Not enough money or years to build all of the Studebakers that I think I can.

In 1976, Wild Woody's car parts store in Raytown, MO was selling Ansen II 15"x8" wheels with lug nuts for $25 each. The Guy at the counter said how many did I want? I was driving my 70 Javelin and only 2 could fit in the back seat. The trunk too small. What a buy.
Wild Woody's was part of the first Mall type structure. The complex was covered with corrugated steel panels. Anyone remember?

The hawk looks like a one off show car in its profile, with a very good looking rake.

Looks like a very solid car with minimal rust, I have a '61 Hawk & also did a bare metal spray, but went a bit further, removing rear 1/4's etc. Epoxy primer is the go, get them to build it up & block it. Can't wait to see the finish, regards, Cus (Also in Aus.)

Just realized this is a right hand drive car. Can you give us some history of the car?

thanks...yeah the first time I took it apart the body came off and rear quarters too. (40yrs ago)
wire brushed and painted everything exposed in ormonoid bitumen paint and then sprayed every nook and cranny in fish oil.
30 yrs ago I did a quick respray for a wedding and a lot of panels went back to bare metal.

The spray painter this time was happy to see paint come off easy and mentioned the minimal rust

                    don't know much unfortunately...
I do know that it came from Alice Springs originally... a place like Arizona (dry) with an occasional wet season.

going by this ...we have been importing RHD since 1910

lots of early photos showing RHD.

It's great you have found the right tradesman, I can tell he's doing a very comprehensive job on the prep, the old girl will last another 60 & then some,
are you doing the same colour?

                      regards, Cus

She has tinted green laminated windows, so I will stick to a similar green.
I really liked the colour (jaguar fern grey) but I think ll change it.
That colour had so many different hues through out the day when it was freshly painted.

99% sure I will go with the 68 Firebird Nightshade Green, also known as Sequoia Green.
It will make all the Stainless and Chrome PoP!

That Nightshades Green is an interesting color. I once sold a '68 Firebird 400 conv. (4-spd, tan leather int.) for an elderly lady here and it was Nightshades Green. If I remember correctly that color looks like a medium gray until you park it next to a green car. Then the green in Nightshades Green pops out at you. (Of course, my color perception may be a little different than another person.)

As an aside, that Firebird 400 4-spd had only two owners, both females. Those were my kinda fast women.

Apparently adelaide sa is not anywhere here in the US, it seems to be in South Australia!
Few here would have a clue where THAT is, South America?

Appears close to an original '60 Hawk color, 'Oasis Green'.
