What is your Drive Your Studebaker Day story?

I first drove to a regular Saturday morning car show at Donut Derelicts in Huntington Beach CA, I arrived ~ 7 am and got a good spot. *Edit* Oh yeah, there were two other Studebakers at this show: Jason from OC Studebaker brought a Hawk, and there was also a '46 pickup truck. About an hour later I left for another show in Anaheim. I didn't stay for the second show because only reserved cars got into the main lot. Then I stopped by my dealership and used the wash rack for a nice clean up. From there I headed to Pacific Coast Highway that runs along the coastline and beach towns. I went north a short distance until it was blocked off for July 4th festivites. I turned around and headed south through the beach towns from Huntington Beach to Dana Point, That section of PCH is one of my favorites with great coastal views, the surf coming in - and all the people watching: people checking out my Avanti, me checking out all the pretty ladies in their finest beach wear.

Whle stuck in traffic a Mercedes window rolled down and out came a camera taking pictures while I waved. "What year is your car" (Dodge Dakota driver) "Nice car dude" (Honda Civic driver) "Woah, nice car" (Dodge Caliber driver). Lots of heads swiveling around for a closer look, car passengers pointing my car out to other passengers. I stopped by Sees Candies for some dark California brittle. When I returned to my car there was another car parking next to mine. As they got out one of them asked if my car was a '57. I told him it is a 63 and he said: "those were hot cars back then."

Overall driving time was four plus hours on the road and six hours total time. I didn't mark the mileage, but it should be ~ 92 miles. It will have more miles before the day is done, I came back to my house for some rest before hitting some other local spots. My clutch leg is a little tired from all the stop and go and crawling through traffic.

My Wife, Daughter and I each drove a Studebaker to a meet about 40 miles away from home today. So, overall our trip was about 80 miles. I have details on another thread (probably in the wrong forum) about the serial killer in our area affecting activities due to the fear it has generated. If I have done this correctly, below will be the link to the other thread in the Studebaker specific discussion forum.

Second posting, saw the other one first.

I took my '53 Coupe to a charity show in Zanesville. On the way home drove around Newark, all the main streets. About 80 miles round trip.

      Didn't see another Studebaker.

Gassed up Sarah, cleaned the windshield, grabbed some oldies and headed out from Baltimore to south central PA.I saw one other Studebaker,a Rosemist '62 or '63 while traveling through the Hereford zone.At about 10:30 or so, the "yo-yo"drivers started to come out so that was my cue to head home.I logged about 3 hours and 130 miles.I wish all of you a great 4th!!!!

Drove our 41 Champion 60 miles round trip to a car show. Met two other Chapter members and their Studebakers there, this was not prearranged. One other Studebaker was there but does not belong to our club. So we had a 50 Champion, a Champ pickup, an M-5 and ourselves. All of us took a first place in our respective classes. It was a real crummy day weatherwise with an almost constant misting and 60's temps. Not a whole lot of fun weatherwise.

I decided to drive to a photo-op, the Willie McCool Memorial. He was from Lubbock and died in the Space Shuttle Columbia accident.

I wasn't going to take Baby out today because of brake probs. But decided to just to drive around the neighborhood to be able to say I had participated in the first International Drive Your Studebaker Day. Drove about a mile to a friends place, who had just last night finished the restoration of his 57 TR3 Triumph. stopped and watched him drive it off to his daughters for a family gathering. Left there and went to get a milkshake for the wife. Because of the brake worries, I pulled into a parking lot next to Sonic and parked. As I was getting out of car a red 54 coupe pulls in and stops to talk. He was just cruising with his wife and stopped to see me. This is a fairly rural area and you just wouldn't expect to see another Stude. I am going to a cruise in about 5 miles from home tonight and then tomorrow to church car show. So I guessw I'll get some Stude notice after all.

I prepared for today with a 45 minute cruise yesterday.

Today, my five year-old accompanied me on a tour of a few local parks and areas in Sacramento, CA, including: Land Park, Curtis Park, Midtown, and Downtown.

"Doc" performed well and is now parked proudly in the driveway for all passers-by to see. Here are a few pics from the ride.

I was wary of driving as far as Grass Valley, but appreciated the invite by the Karel Stapel chapter of the SDC.

IDYSD was a great idea. Thanks!

I took the 64 Avanti out for spin around town this morning. We had other commitments for later this afternoon. Grand Canyon State Chapter got together in Mesa.

We ate at the Cracker Barrel, and then we drove down Rt.5, which is a scenic road, about 25 miles. The weather was real nice. We toured the grounds and the house at Berkeley Plantation.

I didn't do a whole lot of activity today, I spent part of the day trying to pull a stuck 259 and T86 from the 55 Commander. This is a daily driver, so this is usually a day like any other day. But I went out twice which was about 20 miles for both trips. I gassed the car up as it needed fuel.....

I went up to the far SW side of Aurora before getting onto Rt. 30 and headed West out south of Sugar Grove and came around to the north side of Menards Distribution Center. At this point the camera died so I went back to charge the battery. After charging the battery I turned around and went out Sandwich before coming back. On the way back I also took this photo which is a new skewed intersection at 71 and 126. Can't say a whole lot for the intersection(it really defies logic of why they had to rearrange a fairly straight intersection), but the picture says I participated [)].

If you're interested, I posted a video leaving the gas station. If you're on dialup it's gonna be a wait as it's 60 MB for a one minutes video. It's fairly mild mannered but relativly zippy with the blower, all I have to do is "aim and shoot [}]"

Well at 5am I started in on the 59 Hawk. Changed the oil, washed and generally cleaned up.

Nothing really too exciting. I put 30 miles on her. Lots of horn honks and thumbs up's. Stopped for ice cream and soda.

She's now put away for some much needed maintenance.

I put about 30 miles and a new A/C belt on my '62 Hawk.
I'd include a picture but I guess I'm not smart enough.

                            Ah success!

Didn't get the engine back in the Lark in time to drive it today, but I did sit in it and make engine noises for a while. The neighbors really loved that.
