  • Last Studebaker Wagonaire

SDC member David Murphy of Prattsville NY advises that the last Studebaker Wagonaire, serial number C534653 is alive and well, in mostly original condition. The current owner is known but his privacy will be respected.

But there's more to this story. Aside from being the last Wagonaire, it is also the second to last Studebaker built. The last information we had on this car had it in Harrah's Museum in Reno NV. However, apparently this Wagonaire was originally delivered to the William A. Henderson Studebaker dealer in Phillipsburg NJ. It became Mr. Henderson's personal car until his passing in 1978, when it was sold to someone in Watertown NY, who in turn sold it years later. Obviously at some point it ended up in Harrah's until its sale to the present owner.

Does anyone have any further information on this car?

According to page 20 in the March, 1986 Turning Wheels, its fourth from last and the last V8 Wagonaire; also confirmed as per Post #9 here: http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.c...-Discrepencies I firmly believe the 6 cylinder car in Harrah's is THE last Wagonaire and second last Studebaker, right behind the Cruiser pictured on the cover of your excellent book.

The March, 1986 Turning Wheels also shows the final two build sheets (The Line Numbers confirm that):

What is the line number of C534653 as per the color/options near as you can tell? Gold with black interior? I bet its the last V8 Wagonaire made.

I just saw that car at Harrah's when we toured the museum at the Reno Zone meet last May.

I must apologise for not double-checking the information the information that David Murphy sent me. Readers will note that the serial number of the Wagonaire to which David refers is ONE serial number before that of the last car, thereby making David assume this was the second to last Studebaker. After seeing Craig's thorough homework, this car is clearly the second to last V8 Studebaker built, and the fourth to last Studebaker.

In any case, its great to see that it survived!

Its significant in that its the last V8 Wagonaire, and a good complement to the first 1966 Wagonaire which also survives: http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.c...naire-CNE-Unit

For me, the ultimate prize '66 Wagonaire would the this one in Post #44: http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.c...rototype/page2 I hope it too, survives unaltered.

I remember seeing that wagon in the garage next to a '64 Daytona that my Dad bought for my sister back in the mid '70's. We met with the Hendersons as my Uncle Al used to trade cars with them as a fellow dealer. If only I had the foresight to take some pics. Good luck with finding the car and that it is saved.
