  • Avanti Air cleaner

I would like to try to reproduce the R2 air cleaner. I work as the shop lead for a commercial building products manufacturer going on 34 years. We work exclusively in 304 stainless. If anyone could provide me with the dimensions and shots of the outside and inside and all around, would be great. I have, in the past, made parts for other collector cars that I have owned.

Someone will probably correct me if I'm wrong, but I read that there were several variations of R2 air cleaners.
Great to hear that you would take on this task, as parts are what keeps us enthusiasts going. Good luck

Are you only interested in Avanti R2 canisters, or all the R2 variations for the Hawk and Lark as well. The "can" is similar, but the "snorkel" and mount bases are different depending on application.

This thread gives some good information: http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.c...R2-air-cleaner

The cans changed between 63 and 64. The one you have pictured appears to be a 63.

You can get a copy of the original print by contacting the Studebaker National Museum in South Bend.

Old eyes-had to magnify it--took awhile to find the magnifier in Win10 Edge Browser--it is the mount stud after all !!

Looking to build the correct one for my 1963 Avanti first. If all goes well other variations could follow. As I stated in th OP I do not possess one. The picture is just for reference.

There are at least two for the Avanti and maybe three. The R2 Lark has three variations. I do not know if the R2 Hawk had several iterations. The Lark and the Hawk were similar but different in the details.

What is the outside diameter and length of the cylindrical section of a 1963 Avanti unit? I may have something already in mfg to get this started.
