    I remember that Studebaker set several land speed records for an American production car in 1963. Do any of those still stand?

      That's Dave Bloomburg's car. He is the original owner of that car but Lou's question I believe refers to the records that Studebaker set back in 63. Dave has run at Bonneville but his is not one of the cars that Studebaker used in setting those records.

        Lou Van Anne, perhaps this site can help you ! I have a book from out there that one of the racers sent me with "standing records", so I will look for it too, but this may be quicker for you !

          Dave "Avanti Kid" Bloomberg is a dedicated salt racer with a great story. He actually purchased a Corvette but saw an Avanti sitting in front of a church where a wedding was taking place. He was so taken by the design that he took the Corvette back to the dealer and went to the Studebaker dealer and ordered an Avanti. It was his daily driver until his kids left home. Then he turned it in to a race car. I think his best time in it is around 216 mph. It has a Studebaker engine with a Paxton Novi supercharger. Dave and his crew are a great and generous bunch. I'm sorry to see that he is selling the car but understand there comes a time to move on. Someone needs to snatch that car up and keep it on the salt.

            Is there an asking price on Dave's listing? I thought I looked pretty carefully and didn't see one.

              Jack, I just sent an e-mail to Dave asking him to join this thread. I am sure he could offer up some valuable information, including his asking price. Let's hope he joins us.

                I got a reply back from Dave. Here is what he said;
                "my car is for sale for $38K or best offer, hope I can find a Studebaker racer to buy it."
                He says he is looking forward to racing this year at El Mirage, but did not say in what.

                  Yes its true my Bonneville racing Avanti still holds records at Bonneville and El Mirage in the D/CPS racing class and now is in another racing class called D/CBGC which current record was just set by a racer at this years Speed Week, he did set record around 212 mph, my car has in the past done 216 mph in that class but did not make the backup run for the record (you must get an average of two years for a record), I have been racing it for 23 years, I am the original owner, car's engine is Studebaker 299 ci, singel turbo for over 800 hp, now moving turbo boost up from 18 lbs to 25 lbs for my next race at El Mirage Dry Lake in November, engine is a fresh over-haul; if interested car is race ready for sale for $38K OBO. If you buy car my race team will go with you to Bonneville to help you go thru the Rookie program and help tune engine for your runs at over 200 mph. my email is "avantikid@earthlink.net" or call (661) 2516969, thanks Dave Bloomberg (Avanti Kid Racing)

                    But, Lou, as for your question, the only way any of those old records would still be standing would be if the classes no longer existed, or... since Stude records were set under USAC auspices and sanctioned by them who knows when they last did such? I would say the answer is no. Think about the engine sizes and what such cars run today!!! I'm a Salt racer and know what of I speak... it ain't '63 any more!
