  • 1963 Exhaust manifold needed

Howdy all, I have discovered that the ear on my right (passenger side) manifold has cracked off, thereby reducing that cast iron part to scrap. Does anyone have a good used manifold for an R-1? I'll be checking eBay and vendors as well. Is there a difference right to left for manifolds? Car is driveable, but louder than most Avantis - lol.

I did learn something: Avantis are REALLY low in the front downpipe area. Thanks, Bob (Avanti 63R-3062)

Are the standard exhaust manifolds for an Avanti any different from the other V-8s?

You are in luck. For an Avanti, both sides are the same except for longer studs to accommodate the heat riser.
Both Avanti manifolds are the same as the driver's (left) side of non-Avanti engines. So any left studebaker exhaust manifold from the mid 50s on up should be the same.

If you can't find one any closer, I have quite a stack!

Yes they ARE, as stated there is no different Right Side Manifold with a Gen./Alt. Bracket mounting like Lark/Hawk, just a Left Side Manifold mounted on the Right with longer Studs!

I guess that means it shouldn't be hard to find one that would work. I've never owned an Avanti so some of these facts get lost in the fog.

Why not just have a good welder repair it. I have had this done to V8 exhaust manifolds in everyday use and they held up well.

I was quoted $75 for repair about the same as a used manifold plus removing and reinstalling as it is really tight in there, so would prefer a good manifold.

                Thanks all for info, Bob

The 1558255 For '63-'64 Avanti Right Side is $150.00 in the Current 2014 Catalog, it should be a Left with Long Studs.

The 536195 Left Manifold for '55-'64 ALL Models is $145.00 but apparently you would need to put the Long Studs in it if using it on the Right Side with the Stock Heat Riser.

The 1559666 $90.00 one is for All Other than Avanti with the Alt./Gen. Mount Bracket Boss and threaded Holes.

Somebody needs to put their Glasses on.

Interesting. When I go to SI online and enter exhaust manifold, it shows left V8 including Avanti item# 536495 (Avanti parts catalog shows 536195) for $95.00 When you click on item description, it shows including Avanti, then under it it shows except Avanti.

                          Must be a glitch???

It MUST be True, it's on the Internet!

I never trust that online thing, just don't use it, it is way too confusing and easy to miss important items, notes etc. also has many more errors.

When in doubt-use the phone-SI has always worked best for me that way, and have done both. Give them the left manifold number and change the studs when you get it, or just omit the riser valve if you haven't already!!
