I'm sure Richard Quinn would have some of those, he has most everything else.

My favorite automotive journalist in the business today is a gentleman named Jerry Flint. Not only does he cut through today's hype, jargon, and fake images, he's been around long enough to have a great frame of reference that includes the days when Studebaker was in the game. Everyone here should find what he says in this article interesting:

If you wanted to kill a division, how could you do it and avoid those dealer suits? Ask GM.

I visited (including sitting in, looking under the hood, etc.) Avanti 5643 many times when it was owned by Erdellac. IIRC, the car was built on December 26. I am sure that records exist to verify the date.

Many of the last cars built in South Bend, especially Avantis and Hawks were built for Studebaker employees, mostly higer up management. I believe that the last two or three R3 Avantis were built for Studebaker employees.

I think that many of the last surge of Hawks and Avantis were built for factory people and some for stock to last further into the 1964 model year.

A friend of mine from Gardiner, NY (Highland-New Paltz area) bought a 1964 Jet Green Hawk new. I believe that his car went to the Southeast (TN ?) in the late '70s or early '80s.

A few weeks ago, I saw a 1964 Jet Green Hawk with black interior for sale near Highland/Gardiner, NY. I didn't pay much attention to it since it was too rough for me. Since Highland is not that far from Albany, maybe I should check the serial number out.

One also has to consider Studebaker's cost structure, which includes high wages, buying in smaller quantities than the competitors and an antiquated manufacturing process. When your product is priced higher than the competition and rumors abound about your demise, it becomes difficult to make sales.
