Why don't I post my town?

I'm nationally known in another field, and have had (im)perfect strangers come to my town, look up my address in the phone book and drive to my home when no one was there, then meet me elsewhere and tell me about it. My home is so isolated that anyone could throw a rock through the front window and clean me out in my absence and no neighbors near enough or with sight lines to interfere.

Thats' why I don't post my home town.

I guess I just like living on the edge. I have even been guilty, a couple times, of going into Atlanta without my ole trusted Charter Arms .38 Undercover tucked neatly in my waistband.

When I started on this SDC Forum, the majority just used a handle and not their name. I have been known as studegary and used that, which of course also includes my first name. After a few thousand posts here, I did not want to confuse things by changing my handle here. My location is already in my signature area on every post.

As for the screen name, it kinda matches the pic in the signature block, that started back in '84. As for the name.... oh well that's it, and I've always lived in "Atlanter", aka, "Hotlanta", home of the famous Varsity drive in resturant, and "Spaghetti-Junction" one of Atlanta's most famous interstate traffic grid-locks.

I use the same signature name on every forum I'm an member of and it's quite a few. My home town is in my profile and as for selling anything I have yet to sell anything on this forum. I am still looking for parts for my Lark. I'm hoping I get to drive it next year! No mystery here[:P]

For the life of me I do not understand why this thread is still around. What difference does it make if a person does or does not include where he or she lives in his or her signature and/or profile?

There are a lot of other things we could be discussing and even disagreeing about other than this.

Oh, although I don't drink coffee, anyone on this forum feel free to stop by and have a soda, or whatever. Why I'll even cook dinner! My city and state are in my profile.

Harsh as it may sound, I'm not fanatical on having people, many who I don't personally know, lining up at my door, particularly if nobody's home. I even go so far as keep more than just the simple browser security or rely on Window's firewall as the only security to protect privacy. Since the forum is public and anyone can view it, just like the chatrooms I attended, I keep a different name and a relative area I come from. I don't run a business but, if I need to send something or communicate to somebody, even though the screen name and location are phoney, the email is not. I also usually give my real name and a location if I meet somebody from the forum at a meet or if its necessary in the email.

Some people don't list their cars in the roster, either.
This place is wide open to snoopers and someone who really needs a part for a "Year Ahead" model might be interested to know where one is located - and when that person might be attending a meet.

In case anyone is interested, I have a ratty '64 Commander and live at "Smoketree" in La Mesa, CA. If you are going to be here, let me know in time to get theft insurance on it and where you want the keys left! <g>.
