Ted has not been able to get into the 9's even pulling over 600HP out of his heavy 51 Chicken Hawk, the Avanti, with less weight and more HP may do it. I know weight is the enemy, in my youth I raced a 68 Charger RT with a 375HP 440 and my buddy beat me in a 350 cu.in. Olds (W30 ?/W31 ?)

According to the scales at Mid-Michigan, a 1969 440 Charger tipped the scales at 4067 with driver and fuel. A 350 Olds is only about 150lb less. My "lightweight" 340 GTS clocks in at 3600lbs with my svelte 205lb. backside in the seat.
What is the rule of thumb?? A tenth for every 100lbs??
I'm hoping for Ted to go deep into the 9's.[8D]
Ted figures his Avanti to weigh in at 3400lbs. For all that tin work and fiberglass, that seems a bit much. I told Ted, in consideration of the 3400lb race weight, that instead of naming the Avanti "Son of Chicken Hawk" he might try "Son of Porky Pig". He didn't see the humor in that! LOL [B)][B)]

The little Olds was that heavy ? Maybe it was the 4:11 gears/headers he ran that got him into the high 13's. best for me was 14.14 in stock trim./ t

Those are absolutely the best Studebaker photos that have ever been taken at The Pure Stock Musclecar Drags, Frank. [] Not only are the cars gorgeous, but you can see the expression on many of the driver's faces.

(Now, I see we are going to have to clean the bugs off Peter Sant's exterior rear view mirror next year!) [:0]

Please post ordering information. [:I] BP

Thanks JDP and Buick guys for the small block stats chart, that is awesome!

I was interested in comparing the advertised HP vs the "HP" in last column. Which I assume is calculated HP, based on the speeds and et they ran, because it is different on each run. Interesting that almost every single Chevy is overrated, and all the Studes are underrated! "Buick guys"? Please don't throw me under that bus! [xx(] LOL!

For what it's worth, I think those HP figures are pretty darn close to actual rear wheel HP. I had my GTS on a chassis dyno a couple of times to dial in the A/F ratio and experiment with timing changes. The PSMCDR HP calculator was within 5HP of my true rear wheel dyno HP.

Now for some shameless self-promotion. If you want to see what the proper battery hold-down looks like on a non-Studebaker, that same photographer posted up some photos of my beater Dodge:
