63 Champ truck wheels

Ok, I know this has been discussed before.. I must be doing something wrong in my search for info..
So, I'll ask anyway..
I have a 1963 Champ 1/2 ton truck.. It has mis-matched five hole sixteen inch wheels on it..
I would like to put some different model wheels on it.. Somewhere I thought I had read that (ch**y 1/2 ton 2wd) wheels would work..
I think they are 5 on 5 wheels.. Is this info correct?

Yes George the hole pattern is correct, but the backside of the wheel hits the drum, and requires a very crude and not recommended method of shimming with washers. You could however, machine adapters for it. I am not saying that is the ONLY thing you can do, someone may tell you a better plan.

When I bought my '63 Champ it had washers on it and I did what you cannot do...I went to the Studebaker Dealer and bought new original wheels! [^]

George some late 80's full size Ch*vy van wheels will fit without interfering with the ridge on the truck's brake drums or
you could try this:

I used the 76 Chevy drums on my 62 Champ and machined the hubs like Transtar did and they work just great.

[)]I have never seen a '63 1/2 ton Champ with 16" rims. Every one that I have seen or owned has had 15" rims. Are you sure that yours isn't a 3/4 ton Champ? or an earlier year model?[)]

Steve, It has the 16 inch wheels. And it is a half ton.
It was a forest service truck, or something of that nature.
Green paint, holes in roof for antennea, and the decals that were on the doors have been removed.
It's a V/8 with a four speed trans.
Currently a project waiting it's turn.

Steve the 16 x 4.5 wheels for the half tons were optional until the very end. Look in the 7E/8E truck parts book.

Not fond of white color, may see if they fit then paint them satin black with chrome lug nuts..
