As we have seen, by examples of drawings, prototype clay models, and various "mock-ups," designers are artists, naturally, push the envelope of aesthetic limits. Through the years, I have seen various personal custom autos of designers. Some are classy, and others, absurd to hideous.

I have always wanted to see some of the meeting minutes, between designers, bean counters, and production workers. The designers/artist, arguing for their "artistic expression," the bean counters arguing for monetary restraint, and the production folks arguing what was physically, and technologically, possible, with tooling, and "line speed," to make the production time limits.

I bet that just about everyone of those meetings, ended up with many of the various department heads, leaving upset about something.

I don't see it that way at all and actually see a lot of what features the later Avanti was based. Loewy was an innovator and that car is a prime example of such...

I'm sad to say this car reminds me of dating in high school...or the mirror at any given moment in my life.

If only that level of restraint applied to the wheel covers had been applied throughout.

It is hard to believe a professional designer could think that monstrosity is better looking than the factory original designed by Albrecht Goertz.

Since this thread is about Raymond Loewy's concept auto designs, has anyone ever noticed how his "Car of the Future" featured in the Aug. 1950 Science and Mechanics magazine looks so much like the "powerful Mach 5" of the Speed Racer cartoons and movie? Do you think the Japanese copied the basic layout of the car for the cartoon version? Who knows.
