  • Cover Assembly, Spare Wheel

I have a 1962 GT Hawk. The Body Parts Catalog shows a Cover Assembly, Spare Wheel, P/N 1340429X1 (see Plate 21-59 photo from page 220 attached). It appears to be made from plywood and fits on top of the spare tire on many models, including the Hawk K body. It shows the word "SLIDE" on it and an arrow on either side of the word.

Does anyone know anything about this cover? I wasn't able to locate a thread to this subject on the Forum. If anyone knows about this cover, what is the diameter, the thickness of the plywood, the finish, the clips used to hold in place, etc.? I haven't been able to locate one, but might be able to make one if I had the dimensions and fastening method.

    Thanks.Click image for larger version

Remember that this is a Generic Picture. When you go to the Part Number Listing in the Chassis Parts Catalog where spare Tires, Jacks etc. are, you find there are FOUR Part numbers, and '61-'62 C & K Models do get the same one.

I am quite sure the '63-'64 GT Hawks are Vinyl or Rubber Type where the '61 and '62 probably is the piece of Gray Painted hardboard (Not Plywood) that has the 2 metal Clips riveted on, that slide over the Jack Base that is supposed to be bolted to the Spare Wheel.

I have seen lots of these on '59 to '61 Larks, but do not remember what the finned Hawks had.
The problem is, the listings do not mention the material they are made out of.

Here is a picture of the same Tire Cover on this Beautiful Seamist Green '59 Lark VIII Regal Hardtop:

The 4 Clip Rivets are visible.

I remember that my origianl 1959 Lark VIII Regal hardtop had one of these slide mount spare tire covers. I sold the car with 27K miles on it. The next time that I saw the car, that item had been painted. The new owner asked if the cover was correct/original. I said that it WAS (meaning previous to them painting it).
