  • what intake

for my 51 starlight coupe the proposed engine is:
289 stude bored to .060 to give max displacement of 299
avanti cam r1/r2 grind to maintain low speed driveability
modify block to take r3 head gaskets
    aluminum timing gear
    aluminum cylinder heads-r3 valves
    avanti valve springs
    mallory performance electronic distributor
    r3 headers

    aluminum valve covers
    finned aluminum valley pan

need opinions of this engine and what to use for an intake system

    thanks; nickaboni

Well; if those are the real Deal: a $2000.00 a pair reproduction (Experimental) Aluminum R3 clone heads, you really only have one "correct" option with the gigantic ports, only a R3 4 Brl. aluminum repro. intake will work.

An R3 with an R2 Cam, of course is not going to be able to handle a R4 Dual Quad Intake.

I am assuming since you did not mention a Paxton, that your plan is to run unblown.

Nick, if you have "Avanti" valve springs that means R1/R2, you will need R3/R4 springs to get the peak RPM without float.

am thinking about a golden hawk blower set up with the 2bbl air box
dual 4bbl edelbrock caerbs on r4 intake

Now I know you are just joking about this setup! Anyone knows you could not put 2, 2Brl. Air Boxes on a Dual Quad Manifold, let alone put AFB's in them!

Well, that's what it says! But OK, as I said the Dual 4's won't run and you'll lose your "low speed drivability"

The '57 Golden Hawk tiny 2 Brl. will starve the R3 Valves and R2 Cam, and I could blow it away with my 259 4 brl. unblown '64 Daytona, lotta money for no gain! So you are right back where I suggested, a R3 Single AFB intake. Then you could try to make it look like a '57 with an early Blower, but it would not run as strong as the Paxton.

The other option is, make it an R1 looking R3 with R3 Intake & no blower, that should run really good with the small lift and duration R2 cam!
