I had just bought a 1961 Hawk from Pocus Motor Sales in Aurora.
I drove a white 1953 Commander Hardtop at that time and first read about the 1968 SDC meet in South Bend.
Remember the small publication back then called "The Studebaker bulletin"?

Though I drove Studes in the late 1960s, I did not join SDC till 1985. Still, much has changed since even then. I especially enjoy looking at pix of SDC meets of the 1960s-70s. It is obvious about 99 percent of the Studes were driven to those meets, from 1920s-60s vintage, and all between. Some of the old timers from that era are still talked about today, once in awhile, by old timers still around. It is good to hear them spoken of.

        Bob,
I was born in studebaker.....My Mother would say that we made it to the hospital through a very bad snow storm...My Father would snicker and mutter that as we slid to a stop at the emergency door Dr. Chestnut an Sister Crustellia were there waiting for us.

well, the Stude I now drive is the Stude that I was driven home from the hospital in after being born...and I have suggested the same car I was conceived in much to the denial of my mother and no answer from my grinning father. cheers, Junior

I was born at home with the help of our local Dr. My paternal grandmother was a midwife, but she and my mother didn't get along. My father owned a '39 Chevrolet at the time I was born, but the first car I remember is the 1941 Commander. My sister said our mother told her she was conceived in a Studebaker touring car in 1929 on top of Georgia's highest mountain, the Brasstown Bald. I wanted to bring our son home from Northside Hospital in Atlanta in 1975, but the 1962 station wagon was in the paint shop and late being finished. His first trip outside the house was in the Studebaker about a week later.

I have 48 years in SDC.

I wear my 40 year pin to many events. The one in the past week was to the President's Breakfast at a local college. As usual, I had the SDC pin on my suit lapel.

My pre-planned funeral arrangements include the use of a 1929 Studebaker hearse.

No, we have mausoleum space for that.
McHoul Funeral Homes has a nice 1929 Studebaker hearse that they use for funerals, on request.

I brought my youngest daughter home in a '63 Lark in 1985. The oldest had to settle for a Ford van...

My youngest sister was brought home in my parents brand new 1964 Daytona station wagon way back in December of '63.

I received my 40 year pin in 2013. And finally, for my big 60, my wife has made plans for us to visit the Studebaker National Museum sometime in late April and then drive down to watch the NASCAR race at the Talladega super-speedway later that week.

                      Its been a long trip!
