  • A question for the more informed than myself in Oz

Hi all, I'm just wondering if anyone here knows anything about this Hawk I've seen online in Oz.

Thanks in advance for any help and cheers to everyone else.

Is the ser.# a misprint? First three digits, 61'0'.

Yes Paul, wondered that myself. It's the main reason I asked.

      Cheers.

So the # should be somewhere between 6100001 to 6104354?

Those numbers were quoted on one site but I was taking my lead from another that said a G in front instead of the 6.

          Thanks 64V

The Serial Number given is correct for the 1000th 1957 Golden Hawk built in South Bend.

To another post - The 1957 Golden Hawk S/N's start with the digits 610, no "G".

My biggest concern would be the comment in the ad "needs restoration", this could mean a quick 50K (ask me how I know, LOL), I would want many more pictures and questions answered before I "bit" on this ad. Why do all the 57's seem to be gold with white? Most I see are White with a red/gold/black fin. Love them all!!!
              It is an addiction!

My 1957 Golden Hawk was all black (original). Now it is all white.

Looks good. The interior looks straight, no visible sun damage. Get as many pics as you can, and any history -do your research, it would want to be a very good (minimal rust and straight) base car at that price - the current Oz market suggests $24-$35k ($17 -$24,500 US) for 56-63 Hawks in Very Good road going condition, with trailer queens in the $40's. More for GH's. AND you need to factor in $$$ for a resto.........!!

Yeah Quentin, those are the numbers I've seen lately. I'm going to enquire soon but was just chasing a bit of background. Not scared of the bucks for a resto but it'll need to be the right price first.

There's this one getting around too but the fact he can't work out if it's an auto or manual scares me more than a little bit.

Oh, I'll have to change my profile. Oops. Yorkeys is a little beach suburb north of Cairns. Glorious little place.

                        I'm in Melbourne now.

That's cheap for a Golden Hawk now, their prices are going through the roof in the US and with our exchange rate (69 c) plus shipping that car adds up to a 18K USD. Go look at it and crunch the guy if its what you are after, you won't find one cheaper here.

My thoughts exactly. Not all finned Hawks are equal. Those values are more reflective of Australian assembled 61-63 Hawks.

I don't know the car or owner but going by the photos it looks unusually presentable for a car needing restoration.

If you can purchase that car for 18k American it is a steal. With a purchase like or near that you have plenty of room to get it in a condition you are comfortable with. I missed it was a down under car.
