  • 1956 Oldsmobile "Concept Car" raises suspicions

Where could they have gotten the inspiration for this? Does this make you think " bullet nose business coupe"?

    1956 Golden Rocket Dream Car

Oldsmobile's 1956 Golden Rocket featured a seating system in which a roof panel was raised and the seat was elevated and rotated toward the entering occupant when the door was opened. Buttons on the steering wheel allowed the column to tilt downward, providing the driver with easier access.

Looks a lot different than the 1956 88 I had when I was in high school.

This car screams of Harley Earl! No matter what we might like to think Harley Earl did not take styling cues from any one else except Harley Earl. He was indeed one of the all time greats and an all time automotive styling icons.

I also prefer the production 1956 Oldsmobile over the concept car.

I liked that Olds too, with one exception; it didn't have power steering. (But then, neither did my 2R15.)

                Hi

Misterl and his designers took their inspiration from the concurrent jet aircraft and future projections of personal mobility. The overall ethic was to present a futuristic vision of land transportation to light the public's imagination. Any similarity with a five year old used car was purely coincidental.

The way the car is described in how the doors and seats operate....sounds familiar to the Packard Predictor.
