  • Got my production order in for my 1962 GT Hawk ..

This is the first time I ordered a production order for my car .. I was very curious of how the car was built and if it had its original engine.. It now has power steering and a super charger set up added to it .
It does have its original engine . Anyways just thought I would share it with the group and see what others think ..

Interesting Canadian Production Order. Note that it is called a "Silver Hawk 8 Coupe". Also, the "Chrome Air Intake Mldg" is called out - I always thought that the chrome side grilles were standard on Canadian 62 GT Hawks?

Thanks for posting, this is the first Canadian-built Hawk production order I have had the opportunity to see.

Same here. All the Australian Hawks up to '63 had chrome side grilles if I'm correct. Certainly, I've never seen an export or local assembled car with painted side grilles until 1963.
I wonder if production orders are available for Australian Hawks and Larks that were exported to Australia or assembled in Melbourne and if local engine numbers can be matched to a production order?

Tony, we did have some Australian assembled 1962 models with painted side grille surrounds (I haven't tracked serial numbers but they were most likely the last ones assembled) but the chrome type were far more common here and this appears to be true for all export market 1962 GT's. Studebaker must have had a supply of these surrounds that they wanted to use up!

You can order a production order for any Australian assembled vehicle. I have seen a few. They will verify the serial and engine numbers plus some other basic details but the real interesting stuff is the list of Omissions! Because of the high level of local content a production order will refer to the list of items omitted due to local parts sourcing.

Thanks for the comments .. I to was wondering why it was called a silver hawk . I guess they just never updated the paper work from 1961 . It is the first Hawk I have ever driven and I found it to be a very comfortable car to drive more so then the Lark types that I have .

Clean looking `62 Randy...when did you get it? Welcome to the LWB Stude club...betcha you notice the difference cruisin' down the highways compared to the Larks. No front plate...does that mean it's registered in AB...or is that a temp. BC permit behind the windshield? Do you still have the white '64? Perhaps I'll see you in Calgary this year ....for the first time in many years I'll be home for the summer. cheers, Junior

That would not be from "1961", because there were no Silver Hawks in 1960 or 1961.

So it appears that their Export and Canada Model naming on Production Orders from Hamilton had not been updated on Hawks for 3 YEARS!
Just like the 6 or 8 Cyl. thing on Larks and Lark Types to '64, being called VI or VIII.

That is one weird looking production order, I wish I could actually Read it.

Hey there Junior we will have to hit up a couple car shows in Calgary this summer .. The car is in Calgary getting some work done on it and then into the garage until the decent weather .
The Canadians were slow to change I guess StudeRich .. I know some of the writing is hard to decipher .. Sorry for it being on its side . It was uploaded fine and then when I put it on here
                    I came out sideways .

                      Thanks Chris.
I have a Champ ute that I believe was first registered here in 1966, but can't verify this for sure. It was painted Adelaide blue and it had a twin, also in Adelaide blue that John Barton used in the 70's when he was wrecking Studes and doing scrap steel in Melbourne. Both utes were 259 V8's with 3 speed floor shift gearboxes. I don't have the serial number for mine, but I'm sure I have the original engine as it was smoky when I got the ute when it was about ten years old, so I'm inclined to think it still was the original engine.
Is there a way to get the production order from the engine number?
How far back do production orders for export cars go?
                      Any help much appreciated here.

                        Congrats on your find!

Are you going to register it at your residence here in Calgary? Or the one in Fernie?

Not from the engine number. Hopefully the serial number can be found elsewhere. The 1961-66 period of Australian assembly should be covered by the SNM archives.
