  • Dec HCC Way to go Bob

Just got my December issue of Hemmings Classic Car and the first thing I always look for is - "is this a Bob Palma issue?"

Now Bob doesn't always talk about Studebakers but I always feel like he's cheating on us when he doesn't. Even though his non studebaker articles are also top notch.

This month he talks about the Studebaker bullet nose design and the Edsel Horse collar. Interesting comparison. My favorite line from the whole story - Raymond Loewy reportedly told his stylists to update the 1947 car to "make it look like zee aeroplane". Very funny knowing he was a frenchman, but it may have gone over the heads of those that don't know that.

Thanks for throwing that one in Bob, it's tid-bits like those that make it such an enjoyable read.

Thanks, Jon; 'glad you enjoyed it.

Don't forget we have a contest going. The first person to correctly post here the name of the "car and driver" in that column's photograph wins an NOS, uncirculated, small 1964 Studebaker showroom brochure, per Post #4 in this earlier thread:

Nice artilce, Bob. Studebaker has been getting a lot of coverage in Hemmings lately. Glad to see it. The more people see the name, hopefully the more interest it will generate in the Marque.
        Bravo!

And the easier it will be to sell our rides when the time comes.........now that the majority of members are "old and decrepit"

BINGO! Small 1964 brochure coming your way, Bill.

That photo was taken exactly 20 years ago, in October, 1995. It appeared much larger my March 1996 Turning Wheels biography of Ted Harbit, but in black & white . It really jumps out in color; the dark blue and fall "amber waves of grain" (I know, it's corn, not wheat...) compliment each other so nicely.

'Hope everyone enjoys it; that was one of the more "fun" ones I've done once I had the idea.

Also, if anyone wants to subscribe to Hemmings Classic Car for only $12 per year, I have a couple coupons I can mail out. Postpaid cards for $12 per year are also stuffed in newsstand copies of the magazine to encourage single-issue newsstand customers to subscribe. BP.

                Jackpot!

I've enjoyed this magazine for quite a few years now and always enjoy Pat Forster's columns on Orphan cars as well as Bob Palmer's insights. These are the first two things I turn to upon the Magazine's arrival. The fact that both writers were commenting on Studebakers was as though I'd hit the jackpot on this new issue! Well done gentlemen. Well done!
