  • 63 Super Hawk Question

I am looking for info on my 63V 6389, is there a way other than the build sheet to find out this info.

    What I know is:
    power disc brakes
    manual steering
    4 speed
    Body tag info....63v K6 1980
The car may have been blue at one time.....it is now two tone....iron oxide over blue

    All help is appreciated

            Exactly!

Having it really speaks volumes about what you want for your car.

It is also a great Item to display when your car is at a show..

Yes as Standard equipment, but a good number, actually more GT Hawks (not necessarily Super Hawks) had the optional Bendix Power Steering System.

My '64 GT 289-4V had both power steering and power disc brakes.

Hi, Casey: 'Sorry to be late weighing in on this one. Here's what I can add to the discussion from information at hand, about 1963 Hawk with Serial Number 63V6389:

                    1. It was not an R-engined Hawk when it left South Bend. Serial Numbers 63V6370 and 63V6393 were both R-engined cars, but no Serial Numbers between those two were.

                    2.
Even if it had been Avanti-powered originally, it could not have been a Super Hawk. 1963 (and 1964) Super Hawks and Super Larks were defined by Studebaker as having full high-performance packages, which did not come out until long after 63V6389 had been built.

                    3. The first 1963 Super Hawk was Serial Number 63V23914. It was an R2/4-speed, Ermine White.

                    BP

Interesting. My "pre-package" 1963 R1 63V13305 4-speed is Ermine White. It has front disc brakes and the T/T rear end, but does not have the heavy duty suspension and tach.

That does make a big difference, Casey: 63V16389 was indeed an R2-powered Hawk, Blue Mist with a 4-speed and disc brakes, but no Twin Traction (!) or heavy-duty springs and/or shocks.

As you see, the Serial Number is still too low to be a full-package Super Hawk, but it was built and shipped as an R2/4-speed.

                            'Nice find regardless. BP
