  • Rims for a 62 GT in Ontario?

I posted in tech talk that I am looking to find steel rims to store my 62 GT for the winter rather doing so on its spoke rims. I was given lots of suggestions as to what rims will fit. It has Turner front discs and a stock rear axle. Has anyone in Ontario had any luck sourcing rims that will fit? So far I have had no luck at my local wrecking yards near Barrie.

You will have to find 15 x 6 Chrysler or Ford wheels. Most of them are gone from the wreckers near us. They need to early 1973-79 from Dodge diplomats. Roly Lusted, president Hamilton SDC. I just sold a set and got $200 plus a $100 for sandblasting.

If you are storing the car for a lengthy period, why not put it on jack stands?

The Ford wheels are found on Crown Victorias, but watch, some are 7" wide. I was lucky and found 2 new wheels still in the trunk as spare, so only had to take 2 "used" wheels to make up my set. The Crown Vickies are still quite common in yards around here (Niagara) Good luck on your hunt.

I believe that Ford Ranger truck wheels will work too.

I just got back from St Catharines and had no luck. I am told that most of those rims have gone to be used on trailers. Thanks for the response. Planning on going to York in the spring. Maybe I'll find a set there.

Yes I may have to do just that. The folks where I am storing weren't to keen on that in case they needed to move it but I don't want them moving it anyway, unless the place is on fire!

Didn't know Crown Vics would work, thanks. The rims I have found that would work pattern wise have all been 7 inches wide. Seems the 6 inchers have been picked over. I like the spoke rims on the car but I would also like to have a set of rims and correct hub caps that I could put on the car to make it more original in addition to storing for the winter. I haven't tried the yards over your way yet, only as far as St Kitts.

                    The Ranger wheels are 15 x 6". 4" backspace.
                    They came on:
                    93 to 09 Rangers
                    93-94, 96-00 Explorers
                    97-01 Mercury Mountaineers
And at least on 2000 Mazda B2300 trucks [the Mazda truck was a ford ranger with Mazda nameplates.]
Certain trucks also came with 14" wheels. They have 6 ovals.
The 15" wheels you are looking for have 8 oddball shaped ovals.

I used Ford Ranger on front for the Turner Discs. Make sure you use the Ford wheel nuts, too.

I have a set(4) of original '63 Hawk disc brake wheels with almost new radial tires I'd be happy to sell, however they are in Hawaii. $300. If interested, email (RB.V4@att.net) or call me (253.229.5091). Randy
