I don't think item #21 answers the question.
I believe the oil holes blocked, refers to the pressured oiling outlets. I believe all the oil draining holes would have to be kept open. Perhaps even enlarged and smoothed to ensure better oil return to the pan and a path for the breather.
A breather on the valley cover would help the flow return to the pan more efficiently. Would it not create a "draw" from the valley, through the pan, thus pulling the oil from the rockers??
I'm just throwin it against the wall here. Guessing how these guys' minds work. Its amazing. And at the same time, trying to realize that its 1959. All the while, they're pulling 252 HP out of a 259 engine. It appears that the mods allowed are not too far from stock specs.
All in all, pretty cool stuff.

For what its worth... I got the magazine and found that there was no mention of the Larks at Sebring. They were probably at a later race that year. There was however, a nice article on the 59 Lark sedan 6 and V8 Wagon.

For years, I've been collecting material on the 1960 Holman and Moody racing Larks. I plan to do an article for Turning Wheels this coming winter. We have found a number of magazine articles, many pages of H & M specs, the original production orders and Shipping Certificates (there were four cars; one was a test mule), and around 30 B & W 8 X 10 photos of the cars in action. Stay tuned, as they say.

All the letters were from the add agency. Not from Studebaker direct due to the racing ban I guess.

Thanks, George! That is a good project that I look forward to.

Will you be including the Petit LeMans at Lime Rock Park (Connecticut) and Jocko's involvement?

Yes, Gary; Lime Rock is covered in one of the magazine articles I have. I haven't begun serious work on the article yet--those extra cold winter days (when working on cold metal is less fun than usual) will be a good time to get at it! PM sent.

While we're on the subject of the Holman and Moody cars, I'm looking for a good color photo (for the article) of a stock-looking 1960 Lark Deluxe F4 2-door sedan in Gulfstream Blue. That was the color of all four original H & M 1960 Larks. The 1960 showroom brochure PD-6005 has a nice photo of such a car with water in the background, and a similar photo was used in a Studebaker postcard that year (PD-6021E). The postcard photo shows the three people in the background in a slightly different pose compared to the brochure.

A nice-looking 1960 Lark Deluxe 2-door in Gulfstream Blue showed up at the South Bend swap meet a couple of years ago; it had a "FOR SALE" sign on it. Does anyone know who currently owns that car? Or perhaps a similar car? That car was a six, but a good photo of it would still be usable if a V8 can't be found. If we find such a car, it must be a 1960 Lark Deluxe 2-door sedan, Gulfstream Blue, and in nice condition so it would photograph well.

                    Thanks for the help.

I'd love to, Tom, but it kind of blows the purpose of a Turning Wheels article if we start posting major elements of the article in advance. They'll eventually be in print.

It's good to see all the interest in these cars

Just finished reading your's and Bob's excellent article tonight. An excellent read, and well worth the wait!

I hope more information surfaces on these special Larks!

Thanks, Craig. 'Hope at least one of those cars turns up, but we're over 50 years and counting since they disappeared, so chances are not good. Still...the Whistler turned up not too long ago, so we can always hope. I would love to analyze the camshaft H & M developed for those races.

Any chance we could Photoshop this Green one to dark Blue and cut out the people?

This was the South Bend Aug.2, 2012 International Meet, I do not know who's Lark that is.
I thought I might have the one you wanted, but no luck.
