Hello,
After several years of suffering through not owning a Studebaker I am back in the Club.
I have been looking for a 1953 Commander, Starlight for as long as I've been into Studebakers.
After many disappointing years of failed searching (and almost given up) I found "the car" in the newspaper classified ads when visiting my father-in-law in Wichita, KS. (still original except a repaint and replaced seat covers)
Long story but I ordered a Production Order to research the history and have had mixed results.
The reason for this post is to see if anyone knows the destination listed on the order. It says 'LA Fry', nothing more.
My car was produced in Studebaker's L.A. plant but not sure if it was delivered in Los Angeles or if the name is someone's initials. Google hasn't been much help.
I've tracked down 3 previous owners and it did come from California at some point. The owner from California (Stanley Hanenkratt, Rancho Cordova, CA) unfortunately passed away in 2011.
I got his name from the gentleman (Mike Margerum, Elizabethville, PA) that purchased it from him and drove it back to Pennsylvania. Mike is still around and recommended I ask Richard Quinn.
This is way more information than any of you need so my apologies for being long winded.
If anyone has any information on the LA Fry designation I would appreciate a shout.
Glad to be back in the Studebaker community!
Thanks for everyone's continued support.
Best regards,
Neal
